the posting
The Departments of Music and African American Studies at Brandeis University seek an instructor for the course Hip Hop and Popular Music Production, a 4 credit course in Spring 2027. This course studies hip hop as both a technological history (turntables, synthesizers, drum machines, samplers) and a social history (migration, civil rights, deindustrialization, media consolidation, regional identity). Each week pairs a listening and reading unit with a hands-on production lab. The class meets for three hours on Fridays from 9:35am-12:25pm.
Candidates with a Masters Degree or higher and at least five years of teaching and or music industry experience will be given preference. Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, a draft course syllabus, and names and contact information for two references. The deadline for first consideration is November 1.
This appointment is to a position that is in a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 509.
The compensation for this course is $10,000.
Pay Range Disclosure
The University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements.
