About the opportunity

Join the Sydney School of Education and Social Work within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Lecturer in Primary English role plays a key part in applying learning through research and scholarly activity to inform their education and research practice. They make significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation in initial teacher education programs while continuing to build their research contribution, expertise, and impact.

Reporting to the Head of School , your key responsibilities will be:

  • develop and teach units in the area of literacy and English education in the primary education programs
  • build and maintain reputation of academic excellence
  • make original and innovative contribution to research and education which expand knowledge or practice
  • maintain a research profile which meets University expectations and standards
  • development in research which enhance the reputation of the School, such as leading participation in internationally-funded research projects or partner-engaged research projects
  • contribute to outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
  • actively contribute to research, education and administrative activities
  • contribute to collaborative teaching in the School and work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment
  • actively participate in governance and academic community at School and Faculty levels.

About you

We are seeking an exceptional Lecturer in Primary English who has:

  • a PhD in the area of literacy education, particularly primary English education or a related field
  • experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector
