the posting
The University Writing Program at Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position beginning in Fall 2027 to teach composition courses and provide English Language Learning (ELL) support to first-year students as needed.
The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load of first-year writing courses, primarily Composition Seminars (CSEM). Additional responsibilities may include supporting developing writers, English language learners, and multilingual students through tutoring, small-group instruction, and other language-support initiatives, with course releases provided as appropriate.
This is a renewable one-year appointment, subject to programmatic needs and budgetary approval. Authorized salary for this position is $68,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate writing instruction and hold a Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field.
Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience in teaching first-year composition and supporting first-year students through individualized writing instruction, tutoring, academic coaching, and related student success initiatives.
Applicants should submit:
- A cover letter addressing their qualifications and interest in the position
- An up-to-date CV
- A concise statement describing their experience working with developing writers, English language learners, or multilingual learners and their involvement in student success interventions
- A teaching portfolio including a sample syllabus for a composition course and selected evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as assignments, instructional materials, or student feedback
- Names and contact information for two professional references. Brandeis will contact these individuals confidentially for candidates who advance in the search process.
For full consideration, applications should be submitted by November 15, 2026. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
