The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for the Lee Assistant/Associate Professor of Economics, Real Estate and Urban Economics (R0153553) .

ROLE of the POSITION

The Molasky Family Department of Economics & Real Estate in the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for the Lee Assistant/Associate Professor in Economics with an emphasis in Real Estate and/or Urban Economics with an expected start date of Fall 2027. Preference will be given to candidates qualified for appointment at the advanced assistant professor or associate professor rank who have demonstrated the ability to publish high-quality research in real estate and/or urban economics. The department seeks a scholar whose research agenda will complement and extend existing departmental strengths and who demonstrates the ability to collaborate across the Lee Business School’s Centers of Excellence. In particular, the ideal candidate will be positioned to engage with and contribute to the Lied Center for Real Estate’s research and policy programs. Responsibilities of the position include conducting significant scholarly research leading to high-quality refereed publications in Economics and Real Estate enabling the incumbent to maintain an active program of research and publications appropriate for maintaining AACSB Scholarly academic qualifications at a Research 1 Carnegie Classification institution. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the Lee Business School’s research culture, and providing service to the department, school, university, and profession. The ideal candidate will also be expected to teach classes in service of the real estate degree offered by the department.

PROFILE of the COLLEGE

The Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is one of the university’s largest schools, serving approximately 5,000 students, including about 4,500 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. The school offers 10 undergraduate and eight master’s programs across a broad range of business disciplines and is among the top 2 percent of business schools worldwide to hold dual AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting.

Lee Business School is home to four centers that connect faculty and students with business and industry: the Lied Center for Real Estate, the Troesh the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER), and the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management. As part of UNLV, an R1 research university, Lee Business School benefits from its location in the dynamic Las Vegas economy and strong connections with the region’s business community.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT

The Molasky Family Department of Economics & Real Estate is the only named and endowed academic department at UNLV. The department is home to an active and growing faculty with broad research interests and particular strength in applied microeconomics. We offer undergraduate programs in economics and commercial real estate, as well as graduate programs focused on applied economics and quantitative analysis. The department is committed to excellence in research and teaching and provides strong support for faculty research and professional development.

BACKGROUND SCREENING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, or related disciplines from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). ABDs may be considered, but credentials must be obtained by August 1, 2027. Candidates considered for appointment at the assistant professor rank must demonstrate strong potential for sustained high-quality research, publication in leading academic journals, and high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates considered for appointment at the advanced assistant professor or associate professor rank must have an established record of sustained high-quality research and publication in leading academic journals commensurate with an advanced appointment, together with a demonstrated record of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include a research specialization in real estate and/or urban economics, with a sustained, forward-looking research agenda in these areas. Preference will be given to candidates whose research employs state-of-the-art empirical methodologies. Candidates whose research interests strengthen and complement the department’s existing areas of expertise and who demonstrate the potential to produce high-impact and externally visible research in real estate economics, urban economics, and related fields are especially encouraged. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability and/or interest to contribute to the continued development, research mission, and external visibility of the Lied Center for Real Estate. Additional preferred qualifications include demonstrated ability or interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in real estate economics and/or finance, urban economics, and related areas, as well as the ability to contribute to the department’s broader teaching and graduate education missions.

SALARY

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. See published salary tables for economics professors by rank. The Lee Professorship provides an annual stipend of $25,000, paid in equal monthly installments, and $5,000 annually for research and travel support, which will be held in a designated account for use in accordance with university policies.
