Micronesian Legal Services Corporation (MLSC) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to increase access to justice in Micronesia; we provide free legal services to people of limited financial means in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, and Guam.

MLSC is seeking applications for the position of Legal Secretary/Receptionist in our office on Guam.

Qualifications:

At least two years’ relevant experience;

An understanding of and desire to learn more about MS Office, database management, and electronic communications; the use of printers, copiers, and office phone systems.

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing

Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities.

Ability to speak English; ability to speak another language, especially Chuukese or Pohnpeian is a plus.

Credentials as a Notary Public or ability and willingness to take the Notary exam are a plus.

The position requires occasional work-related travel within the island, including posting public notices, delivering or serving documents, and conducting other office-related errands. A valid driver's license and reliable access to transportation are preferred.

Duties Include :

Answer phone calls; maintain files, handle mail;

Receptionist for persons walking into the office;

Screening of potential clients, including entering information into computerized database, and using database to manage cases and work;

Work with other staff to prepare legal and other documents, using computers and printers.

Lodge/Process documents with the Superior Court and/or District Court of Guam;

Serve documents on other legal offices and/or government entities as required.

Posting of documents as prescribed by the Clerk of Court, Superior Court of Guam.

Perform related duties as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

Annual salary from $26,815.50 to $43,076.50, depending on experience and based on a competitive scale, and generous fringe benefits will be provided.
