Our growing Ophthalmology department is seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a part in delivering exceptional specialty eye care, ensuring the highest standard of care for our patients
Responsibilities
Perform basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing, retinal electrical function, etc.) and help hold patients for detailed ocular examination, including the ability to properly restrain fractious cats.
Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care. This includes client communication through email.
Assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries. Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery , retinal surgery , glaucoma surgery
Provide exceptional and compassionate care for patients from admission through discharge
Provide anesthesia, surgical support, and post-operative recovery for patients of all ASA levels.
Place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including paralytics, ventilation, constant rate infusions, etc.)
Assist the Ophthalmology department with appointments and facilitate technician appointments. This includes filling prescriptions through various methods.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot surgical and anesthetic equipment
Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues
Qualifications
Must have NYS Veterinary Technician’s license
Candidate must be able to work successfully as part of a team and autonomously with the ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
A strong skill set in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia protocols, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative care is essential
A candidate for this position must a solid basic anesthesia skill set, ophthalmology preferred but not required
Eager to learn more about diseases and medication specific to ophthalmology
Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds
Basic computer skills a must
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
