Job Description:
The Easy Apply Engineering team is seeking a Manager, Engineering to lead the delivery, modernization, and operational excellence of TD's enterprise digital onboarding platform. Easy Apply is a strategic onboarding capability that enables customers to seamlessly discover, apply for, and onboard products across multiple business lines and channels through a secure, scalable, and customer-centric experience.
This role is responsible for leading a team of software engineers while providing technology leadership across a portfolio of onboarding applications, APIs, and digital capabilities that support customer acquisition, account opening, identity verification, eligibility, workflow orchestration, and digital onboarding experiences.
The successful candidate will oversee the design, delivery, and support of cloud-native applications built using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, event-driven architecture, APIs, and Azure technologies while helping evolve the Easy Apply platform into a modern, AI-enabled onboarding ecosystem.
This role requires a strong combination of people leadership, technical expertise, stakeholder management, and platform ownership. You will partner with product, architecture, experience design, business, quality engineering, and platform teams to deliver secure, scalable, resilient solutions that improve customer acquisition, onboarding effectiveness, and colleague productivity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, inclusion, customer focus, and continuous learning.
- Drive talent management activities including recruitment, performance management, career development, succession planning, and employee engagement.
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to engineers, technical leads, and emerging people leaders.
- Build and maintain a high-performing engineering organization aligned with business growth and digital transformation objectives.
Engineering Delivery & Execution
- Own end-to-end delivery of strategic onboarding and digital acquisition initiatives.
- Lead the development and evolution of onboarding APIs, workflow services, orchestration layers, and customer onboarding capabilities.
- Deliver scalable and resilient solutions supporting customer onboarding journeys across web, mobile, assisted, and self-serve channels.
- Balance delivery speed with security, compliance, operational excellence, reliability, and customer experience outcomes.
- Ensure production readiness through robust monitoring, observability, incident management, release management, and resiliency practices.
Platform Ownership & Modernization
- Act as Technology Asset Owner (TAO) for onboarding applications, APIs, and platform services.
- Drive modernization initiatives supporting cloud-native architecture, reusable onboarding capabilities, API-first design, event-driven integration, and enterprise onboarding standards.
- Maintain technology roadmaps, lifecycle plans, currency management, and decommissioning strategies.
- Lead vulnerability remediation, technical debt reduction, platform simplification, and modernization programs.
- Champion platform reusability, composability, and engineering efficiency across onboarding journeys.
Customer Onboarding & Digital Experience
- Partner with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to create seamless customer onboarding experiences.
- Support capabilities such as digital account opening, identity verification, customer authentication, eligibility assessment, document collection, workflow orchestration, and onboarding fulfillment.
- Drive improvements in customer acquisition, onboarding completion rates, and operational efficiency.
- Leverage analytics and customer insights to continuously optimize onboarding journeys and digital experiences.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define priorities, roadmap investments, and strategic platform direction.
- Communicate delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes to senior leadership.
- Collaborate across architecture, cybersecurity, platforms, digital channels, product management, and quality engineering teams to ensure successful outcomes.
- Support enterprise governance, architecture reviews, regulatory compliance, and risk management processes.
Engineering Excellence & AI Innovation
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled software development capabilities to improve productivity, quality, and developer experience.
- Foster a culture of automation, experimentation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
- Champion modern DevSecOps practices, CI/CD automation, observability, and quality engineering.
- Lead adoption of TD's Model 2 / AI-enabled SDLC practices and engineering transformation initiatives.
- Explore opportunities to leverage AI and intelligent automation within onboarding experiences and platform operations.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Software Engineering & Architecture
- Extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud-native architecture.
- Strong understanding of API-first design, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, and system integration patterns.
- Experience building secure, scalable, high-availability customer-facing platforms.
- Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, identity verification, and secure software development practices.
- Experience implementing solutions on Azure or comparable cloud platforms.
Digital Platforms & Customer Onboarding
- Experience delivering customer onboarding, digital acquisition, self-service, workflow, or customer journey platforms.
- Understanding of onboarding processes, customer identity verification, digital application workflows, and customer lifecycle experiences.
- Experience building reusable platform capabilities supporting multiple products, channels, or customer segments.
Quality Engineering & Operational Excellence
- Strong understanding of test automation, quality engineering, and continuous delivery practices.
- Experience improving production stability, reliability, resiliency, and operational metrics.
- Experience partnering closely with Quality Engineering teams to improve software quality and reduce production defects.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
- Ability to navigate complex enterprise governance, regulatory requirements, and delivery environments while maintaining execution focus.
- Strong collaboration skills across business, product, architecture, and engineering functions.
