- Support engagement teams on complex IFRS Accounting Standards and US GAAP matters.
- Exercise professional skepticism to challenge engagement teams through technical consultations, including their evaluation of alternatives and application of professional judgment to facts and circumstances.
- Research relevant standards and supporting guidance, evaluate alternatives, and ensure clear, concise, and well-supported technical analyses, all while considering and capturing industry-specific factors.
- Collaborate with professional practice leaders, industry specialists, and firm stakeholders on IFRS Accounting Standards, US GAAP and quality and thought leadership initiatives.
- Develop and maintain practical guidance, templates, tools, and communications that support consistent and high-quality assurance engagement execution.
- Design and present technical learning, case studies and knowledge-sharing sessions for assurance professionals, and external clients as needed.
- Monitor emerging accounting, assurance and regulatory developments, assess their implications, including industry factors, and help translate changes into action.
- Build relationships with and coach partners and assurance teams and effectively manage a high volume of technical consultations.
How do we define success for your role?
- You demonstrate BDO's core values through all aspects of your work: integrity, respect, and collaboration.
- You provide technically sound, concise, and practical guidance that assurance engagement teams can apply.
- You are a responsive, credible, and pragmatic adviser.
- You build trusted relationships and contribute to an inclusive environment that develops, retains, and attracts talent.
- You remain current on emerging developments and help strengthen financial reporting and audit quality across the firm.
Your experience and education
- You hold a Canadian CPA designation or an equivalent international designation
- You have public accounting experience in audit and assurance or technical accounting, including experience serving public companies, private companies, or both, and are operating at a manager or senior manager level, or have equivalent experience.
- You have advanced technical proficiency in IFRS Accounting Standards/US GAAP, including the ability to research, analyze and communicate complex accounting matters.
- You bring broad experience across various industries.
- You have demonstrated experience researching, documenting, and presenting technical accounting positions to partners, engagement teams, and other senior stakeholders.
- You communicate confidently with senior professionals, facilitating discussions and constructively challenging conclusions.
- You have strong time-management and organizational skills and can manage multiple complex technical consultations and competing priorities.
- You demonstrate strong teamwork and leadership skills and contribute to a culture of coaching, inclusion and kindness.
Salary Range: $76,000 - $126,000 per annum
