Credit Ratings is a core part of the Global Ratings Services team, bringing together a diverse group of over 1,400 analysts across key financial centers worldwide. The Financial Services practice delivers forward-looking credit insights on banks, insurers, and other financial institutions, assessing capital strength, funding and liquidity, asset quality, governance, and operating environments to inform the rating opinions that markets depend on. The practice supports stakeholders in understanding how evolving risks, from regulation and macroeconomic shifts to digital assets and decentralized finance, can affect financial stability and credit performance.

Impact

The Managing Director in the Financial Services practice, will lead the development of independent credit opinions that markets rely on, combining rigorous analytical leadership with innovative, AI-enabled approaches that strengthen the depth, speed, and consistency of insight. Shaping the next generation of credit talent; coaching, empowering, and developing others while modeling the curiosity, integrity, and collaborative spirit that define leadership at S&P Global Ratings.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Coach and mentor analysts and senior analysts, building capability in sector expertise, credit judgment, market engagement, and AI-enabled analytical practices.
  • Collaborate across sectors, regions, and asset classes to share best practices, enhance global analytical consistency, and address complex cross-market developments.

Core Analytical & Delivery

  • Lead market-relevant, forward-looking sector analysis to ensure high-quality analytical coverage and differentiated insight across the Financial Services sector.
  • Translate sector and issuer developments into clear, decision-ready analytical and thematic perspectives, leveraging data, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled tools to enhance the depth, speed, and consistency of insight delivered to internal and external audiences.

Stakeholder & Market Engagement

  • Serve as a visible, market-facing leader with key stakeholders — including management teams, investors, regulators, and other market participants — representing S&P Global Ratings' analytical perspective through high-quality dialogue while upholding independence, objectivity, and analytical integrity.
  • Partner with Methodology teams and represent the Financial Services sector in relevant forums to support consistent criteria interpretation and application globally, while contributing market insights and analytical learnings to strengthen methodologies and practices.

Risk Management and Operating

Contribute to the oversight of innovation in sector analysis with the goal of improving efficiency, consistency, and decision-making, while maintaining strong analytical discipline and governance.

Compensation and Benefits Information (US Candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $240,000 USD to $289,000 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.   • S&P Global states that the anticipated range of compensation for this position is 260,000 CAD to 295,000 CAD. Final compensation for this role will be based on the individual’s performance, geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. What We're Looking For

Required Skills and Experience

  • Lead the North America NBFI team and build a culture focused on superb customer service, strong analytical decision making, talent development, collaboration with business partners, operational effectiveness and be a leader in the broader business transformation across the practices.
  • Champion innovation by identifying opportunities to redesign workflows, embed automation and AI, and scale repeatable analysis to improve efficiency and decision-making across the organization while maintaining strong analytical discipline, controls, and governance.
  • Contribute from a leadership standpoint to our Private Markets initiatives
  • Recognized analytical leader with the ability to develop differentiated, decision-useful sector commentaries and thematic insights, translating complex developments into concise, evidence-based narratives.
  • Proven ability to represent S&P Global Ratings' analytical perspective with senior external stakeholders, building trust through clarity, rigor, and consistent engagement.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Methodology and Research & Development teams to support consistent criteria interpretation and application globally, while contributing sector insights to strengthen analytical frameworks.
  • Ability to connect issuer and sector developments to forward-looking risk themes, identifying emerging trends that inform monitoring activities, research, and rating committee discussions.
  • Ability to coach and develop analytical talent at multiple levels, building sector expertise, credit judgment, and modern analytical capability across the team.
  • Ability to oversee and contribute to innovation in sector analysis, balancing efficiency and consistency goals with strong analytical discipline and governance.

Preferred or Helpful Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. A master's degree or professional certification (such as CFA) is highly valued. We welcome candidates from traditional finance disciplines as well as diverse academic backgrounds that support innovative and critical thinking.

Additional Information

  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 10 or more years of relevant experience in credit analysis or financial services.
  • We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
  • Employees are required to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
