Job Description Summary
- About the Role
- Electrical drives, switchboards, and distribution systems only perform as designed when they're built right — and that's where you come in. As a Manufacturing Support Engineer within our Systems Engineering organisation, you'll work side-by-side with our contract manufacturing partners to turn engineering designs into reliable, high-quality equipment that powers critical infrastructure. You'll be the technical bridge between design and production, spending real time on the shop floor, solving problems as they arise, and helping new solutions take shape from concept to finished product.
Because this role supports work connected to critical national infrastructure and national security, candidates must be eligible for and willing to undergo UK Security Clearance (SC) and must hold sole British nationality (sole UK passport holders only — dual nationals cannot be considered).
Job Description
What You'll Do
- Support the manufacture of electrical drives, switchboards, and distribution panels — answering technical questions, helping manage schedules, and resolving quality issues as they come up
- Serve as the main technical contact for electrical engineering questions on active manufacturing contracts
- Partner with the supplier quality engineering team to evaluate and approve new suppliers
- Work with project managers to set priorities, manage cost, and build realistic manufacturing schedules
- Contribute to test plans and support routine testing and customer factory acceptance testing
- Create electrical designs in EPlan and manage bills of materials using Siemens TeamCenter, a product lifecycle management (PLM) system
This role involves frequent travel, both across the UK and internationally, to be where the work happens.
Who You Are
You're energised by being close to the product — you'd rather be on the production floor working through a technical issue with a team than behind a desk all day. You communicate clearly, stay organised under shifting priorities, and bring a steady, practical approach to solving problems alongside engineering, manufacturing, and project teams.
Required
- Total experience and professional achievement matter most to us. A degree in Electrical Engineering is a nice-to-have, but significant hands-on experience in an electrical engineering environment works just as well
- Significant, well-rounded technical knowledge of electrical technology, circuit design, electrical assembly, cabling and wiring, and DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly)
- Experience supporting manufacturing and product development, ideally within the industrial or electrical equipment sectors
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Eligible to obtain, or already holding, UK Security Clearance to SC level, and sole UK nationality
Preferred
- Experience leading projects
- Proficiency with EPlan or similar electrical schematic design software
- Experience with Siemens TeamCenter or similar PLM software for bill of materials management
- Background in UK naval engineering projects
