Our Team:
Semtech Corporation (NASDAQ:SMTC; www.semtech.com) is a leading supplier of high-quality analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products. Semtech is an organization headquartered in Camarillo, California with 31 offices in 14 countries around the world.
Semtech’s Protection Business Unit is a group of passionate and talented individuals tasked to support the development of industry-leading protection integrated circuits (IC) for high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductor for high-end consumer, automotive and industrial end market applications, dedicated to providing customers with high quality proprietary solutions and breakthrough technology.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to develop, maintain, and continuously improve the quality systems that support our wafer-level and flip chip assembly operations. The role combines corrective action leadership with ownership of the site’s quality data, Smartsheet tracking systems, inspection procedures, and outgoing shipment release. The ideal candidate brings a systems mindset, strong automation and data skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional meetings and train technicians. This is a permanent, full-time position in a high-reliability semiconductor environment.
Responsibilities:
Corrective Action & Problem Solving (30%)
Manage the corrective and preventive action process, records, and status reporting for the site
Lead CARs using 8D and structured root cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone, fault tree), partnering with engineering and manufacturing on failure analysis and effective corrective actions
Facilitate the weekly CAR review and quality incident report meeting using the CAR Action Tracker (priority-based timelines, escalation, timed effectiveness audits) to drive on-time containment and closure
Report closure progress to the Quality Director and site leadership, and verify effectiveness through data analysis and follow-up validation
Support continuous improvement (CIPs, PARs) using Lean/Six Sigma and DMAIC
Quality Procedures & Training (25%)
Own the quality processes and ~20 operating procedures (IQC, OQC, RTR, QAE, SMT, and others), and create or improve procedures for assembly, facilities, EHS, and process development
Own the RTR process and serve as SME and equipment engineer for the Vitrox reel-to-reel inspection tool
Train quality technicians and new hires on these procedures, and manage technician certification and recertification (QA Certification Checklist, Quality Training Matrix)
Quality Data & Metrics (20%)
Administer the site’s quality Smartsheet environment (sheets, trackers, dashboards, automations, user access), including the CAR, CAR Audit, CIP, PAR, and customer request trackers
Build automated systems and integrations (Smartsheet automations, scripts, code) that reduce manual tracking
Create and manage quality KPIs; publish weekly metrics using Tableau or other dashboards
Serve as general systems engineer for site support functions, and evaluate AI and automation tools that streamline daily work
Inspection, Shipment Release & Customer Requirements (15%)
Act as the engineering verification point for outgoing shipments: review OQC scans, shipment documentation, and NCMRs, and participate in MRB dispositions so no nonconforming material leaves the site
Prepare Full Material Declarations (FMDs) and complete SGS and other third-party compliance requests with Document Control
Track customer requests and customer-specific requirements to on-time closure, and support customer complaints through the RMA process
Quality Systems & Standards (10%)
Maintain the ISO 9001 QMS and support the transition to IATF 16949
Participate in internal and external audits as technical SME
Review and approve quality documentation (procedures, work instructions, process specifications)
undefined
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
Two or more years of experience in a manufacturing, product development, or quality engineering environment; semiconductor or electronics preferred
Advanced Smartsheet proficiency or similar (formulas, cross-sheet references, dashboards, automations) with the ability to design and administer sheets and workflows for an entire site
Demonstrated expertise in 8D and root cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone, fault tree)
Working knowledge of SPC and Cpk and of AIAG Core Tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, PPAP, APQP)
Experience with ISO 9001 or an equivalent QMS, including authoring and controlling procedures and work instructions in a PLM or document control system
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
Excellent communication skills, including leading meetings and delivering training, and a track record of collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier organizations
undefined
Desired Qualifications
Experience writing code or scripts (Python, SQL, JavaScript) to automate workflows and report on data, including Smartsheet automation or API integrations
Experience building dashboards in Tableau or a similar business intelligence tool
Hands-on experience with chip-scale packaging technologies (flip chip, wafer-level CSP, or advanced packaging)
5+ years of quality or manufacturing systems engineering experience in semiconductor backend assembly
Experience with Agile PLM, MES, and/or SAP
Experience training and certifying technicians or operators
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, CQE, CQA, or ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 Lead Auditor certification
Familiarity with IATF 16949, AS9100, or ISO 13485 quality standards
Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
Key Success Factors:
Systems and automation mindset: Builds reliable, automated systems that fix root causes and that others can use without help
Process ownership and follow-through: Keeps recurring reviews and trackers moving to on-time closure
Teaching and collaborative influence: Trains and mentors technicians, and guides engineering and supplier teams through data and relationships rather than positional authority
