the posting
As the Marketing Manager at KNKX Public Radio, you are the person who brings trusted local journalism and incredible music to more listeners, more communities, and more corners of the Pacific Northwest. Working from our Tacoma or Seattle studio on a hybrid schedule, you will build and run the campaigns that grow our audience, power our fund drives, and strengthen the local business partnerships that support our mission. This is a hands-on role, and that is the best part of it: the campaigns are yours to build, launch, measure, and improve. If you believe local public radio matters, this is your chance to help make sure more people hear it.
- What you’ll do
- You will work alongside our Director of Marketing, Communications and Government Relations, who sets the strategy and will spend real time teaching you how we do things here.
- Day-to-day, you will:
Build, launch, monitor, and adjust digital ad campaigns - mostly Meta, plus coordinating with our Google Ads vendor
Plan and publish social content, working across the news, music and development teams so our messages line up
Support fund drives, new show launches and station events with campaign plans, creative and copy
Brief and manage outside designers, illustrators and videographers to produce work within our brand, and create simple graphics and video yourself in Canva
Run the day-to-day of our Business Community membership program - renewals, member benefits like website listings and newsletter acknowledgments, and relationships with local businesses. This is about a quarter of the job, and it is not a commissioned sales role
Track how campaigns performed, report on it, order station collateral, and keep our templates and documentation in good shape
- What you need to thrive in this role
- We can teach you our platforms and our process. We are looking for someone who brings the following:
You have personally set up and run digital ad campaigns - Meta, Google, Reddit, Amazon, any of the self-serve platforms. We care that you built the audience, wrote the copy, set the budget and watched the results, not that you boosted a post for $5
Strong writing. You can take a program idea and come up with ten headlines, then tell us which one is best and why
Real organization and attention to detail. Several campaigns, several departments, actual deadlines
A good eye. You do not have to be a designer, but you should know when something looks right and be able to tell a designer what you need
Comfort picking up the phone or walking into a local business to talk about business membership, and keeping those relationships warm
Able to work a hybrid schedule from our Tacoma or Seattle studio, get between the two now and then, and cover the occasional evening or weekend event (less than once a month)
Something to say about why public media matters to you. We ask for a cover letter, and we read them
Pluses, not requirements: graphic design or video editing, Canva, email marketing platforms, CRM or database experience, market research, or a background in nonprofit or small-budget marketing where creativity mattered more than spend
A degree is a plus, not a requirement. If you learned this by running ads for your own band, shop, or side project, we want to hear from you
About us
KNKX Public Radio serves the region with NPR news and a jazz and blues music service, broadcasting from studios in Tacoma and Seattle. We are a listener-supported nonprofit, which means the people who value what we do are the people who pay for it - our members, our sponsors, and our community.
We are a small team in a growing organization, so the work you do here is visible and it matters. You will not be one voice among twenty in a marketing department. You will be the person making it happen, with a manager who has done this job himself and has been promoted several times in his years here.
What we offer you
$60,000 - $75,000 per year ($28.85 - $36.06 per hour), depending on experience
Hybrid schedule - three days a week in our Tacoma or Seattle studio, and flexibility about which one is your home base
Medical, Dental, and Vision with FSA option
PTO and Holidays- including the entire week between Christmas and New Year's!
401K with generous company match
Disability, life, and AD&D insurance options
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Room to grow as the organization grows
Work that is connected to something worth doing
