Join Our Mission

The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society (SFAHS) is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Marketing Specialist to help share the stories of the animals, people, programs, and partnerships that make our mission possible.

The Marketing Specialist works closely with the Marketing team to develop engaging content, strengthen the SFAHS brand, promote adoptable animals and programs, and support fundraising, events, and organizational communications.

Key Responsibilities

Create engaging content for SFAHS social media platforms, website, email communications, newsletters, and other marketing channels.

Monitor social media engagement and help respond appropriately to comments, messages, and community inquiries.

Maintain consistent SFAHS branding, messaging, and visual standards across communication channels.

Capture and edit photos and videos featuring adoptable animals, staff, volunteers, programs, events, and community partnerships.

Help manage and update website content and online animal and program information.

Develop graphics, promotional materials, signage, digital content, and other branded materials.

Maintain organized marketing files, photography, video, brand assets, and promotional materials.

Assist with planning and executing marketing campaigns.

Assist with event promotion and provide marketing support before, during, and after SFAHS events.

Track marketing performance and engagement to help identify opportunities to strengthen communication efforts.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the SFAHS mission.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

A portfolio showcasing relevant creative work is required with application.

Previous experience in marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, or a related area preferred.

Proficiency in Adobe Suite.

Knowledge of graphic layouts, branding, and content creation.

Proficient with cameras, including manual camera settings and lighting techniques.

Photography and video creation/editing experience required.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively across departments while also working independently.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced animal shelter environment.

Creative, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with strong visual storytelling skills.

Experience in animal welfare or nonprofit environment preferred.

Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for events, media opportunities, or other organizational needs.
