Master Service Technician – Commercial Kitchen Equipment
Smart Care
You Know Your Way Around a Commercial Kitchen. Especially When Something's Broken.
Fryers that won't heat. Ovens that won't cooperate. Walk-in coolers that decide to take the day off. When commercial kitchen equipment goes down, restaurants need someone who can figure out what's wrong and get things running again.
That's where you come in.
Smart Care is looking for an experienced Master Service Technician who knows how to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial kitchen equipment — and doesn't need someone looking over their shoulder to get the job done.
We're looking for someone who's been around the block, knows the equipment, and can tackle the complicated service calls that leave other technicians scratching their heads.
This isn't just about fixing equipment. It's about being the technician customers trust and the person other technicians call when they need a second opinion.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial cooking, refrigeration, warewashing, and other foodservice equipment.
- Work on equipment such as ovens, fryers, steamers, griddles, dishwashers, ice machines, walk-in coolers, reach-ins, and other commercial kitchen systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, gas, and refrigeration issues to identify the actual problem — not just throw parts at it and hope for the best.
- Read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to diagnose complex equipment failures.
- Work directly with restaurant managers, hospitality customers, and other commercial clients to keep their equipment operating.
- Communicate with manufacturers and technical support teams when additional resources are needed.
- Complete repairs accurately, efficiently, and professionally.
- Perform preventative maintenance and identify potential issues before they turn into expensive emergency calls.
- Keep accurate service records, work orders, time reporting, and parts documentation.
- Maintain your company vehicle, tools, and truck inventory.
- Recommend additional services or repairs when appropriate.
- Follow established safety procedures and company standards.
- Share your knowledge with other technicians , providing troubleshooting assistance, technical guidance, and support when needed.
- Manage your service calls independently while maintaining strong productivity and customer satisfaction.
What We're Looking For
First and foremost, we're looking for someone who can troubleshoot.
Not just replace a part because a fault code told you to.
We want someone who understands how commercial equipment works, can identify the root cause of a problem, and knows how to make the right repair.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of technical experience in refrigeration, appliance repair, commercial kitchen equipment, HVAC, or a related technical field.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
- Willingness to participate in an emergency on-call rotation, including nights and weekends.
- Availability for occasional overnight travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
Even Better If You Have:
- Extensive commercial kitchen equipment repair experience.
- Experience servicing both hot-side and cold-side equipment.
- EPA, CFESA, or other relevant technical certifications.
- Experience diagnosing complex electrical, mechanical, gas, or refrigeration issues.
- Previous experience mentoring, training, or assisting other service technicians.
- Relevant military technical experience.
What You'll Get
A Company Service Vehicle: Along with a fuel card, tablet, and cell phone for business use.
Competitive Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package, including 401(k) and paid time off.
Training & Certifications: Ongoing technical training, access to Smart Care's National Training Kitchen, and opportunities to pursue professional CFESA certifications.
Technical Support: Access to experienced technical support teams and manufacturer resources when you need them. Even the best technicians occasionally need a second set of eyes.
Independence: Spend your days doing what you do best — troubleshooting, repairing equipment, and taking care of customers.
Opportunities to Grow: Continue developing your technical expertise while helping support and mentor other technicians.
The Not-So-Glamorous Stuff
This is a hands-on field service position. You'll be working in commercial kitchens and other customer environments, which means:
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds.
- Working around hot surfaces, open flames, pressurized steam, electrical components, and moving mechanical equipment.
- Occasionally working in damp, humid, freezing, or otherwise uncomfortable conditions.
- Working on ladders, rooftops, and occasionally elevated work areas.
Some days you'll have straightforward repairs. Other days, you'll have equipment that seems determined to test every bit of your patience and troubleshooting ability.
That's part of the job.

The Bottom Line

If you're the person everyone calls when they can't figure out what's wrong with a piece of equipment, we should probably talk.
Bring your experience. We'll bring the service van.
