Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Materials Manager to lead our materials and inventory management operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials essential for manufacturing processes. Your expertise will ensure seamless supply chain flow, optimize inventory levels, and support production schedules to meet company goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive efficiency, foster cross-functional collaboration, and contribute to the success of a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage inventory based on customer demand
- Maintain accuracy on all inventory and purchasing for decisions involving purchasing.
- Manage end-to-end materials management processes, including procurement, inventory control, and logistics coordination.
- Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate contracts, improve supply chain efficiency, and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Develop and implement production scheduling and demand planning strategies aligned with manufacturing needs.
- Maintain detailed records using spreadsheets and inventory management systems for reporting and analysis purposes.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and quality assurance to optimize materials flow and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
Requirements
Education requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred (Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field); equivalent experience considered
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ sales and/or steel material experience required within the steel service center spectrum
- Experience with inventory management and/or ERP systems
- Working knowledge of data analysis/reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; root-cause analysis experience a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including cross-communication with other personnel including shop employees
