Mechanical Engineer - Gearboxes & Electric Motors

Description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination, analysis, design, detailing, validation, and optimization of electric motor, gearbox, and gearmotor projects. This position is involved from concept through validation and product launch, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with technical standards, design and process criteria, and customer requirements. Product lines include both standard and custom designs with high engineering content.

This role also supports customer orders from the proposal phase through design, development, manufacturing, testing, and field service/aftermarket activities. The engineer will be responsible for collaboration and sharing of best design practices within the WEG Group.

Main Responsibilities

· Design, develop and analyze electric motors, gearboxes, gearmotors and related mechanical systems using sound engineering principles and applicable standards.

· Determine product specifications and perform engineering calculations to meet customer requirements, performance objectives and industry standards.

· Develop 3D models, technical drawings and engineering documentation to support product development and manufacturing.

· Plan, coordinate and execute prototype testing, validation activities, engineering evaluations and field failure investigations.

· Lead and support new product development, product optimization, cost reduction, quality improvement and portfolio expansion projects.

· Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, customers and global engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and support new product development.

· Specify, evaluate and improve components, materials and mechanical systems to ensure product performance, reliability and manufacturability.

· Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions related to product design, manufacturing and field performance issues.

· Maintain accurate technical documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.

· Provide technical support for manufacturing, customers, suppliers and field applications, including occasional domestic and international travel.

Requirements

· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.

· Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or related engineering roles.

· Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling, engineering drawings, and GD&T required.

· Experience with electric motors, gearboxes, gearmotors, power transmission equipment, or other rotating machinery strongly preferred.

· Proven experience in project coordination.

· Experience performing mechanical calculations involving gears, bearings, shafts, rotating equipment, stress analysis, and fatigue evaluation preferred.

· Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, castings, machining, heat treatment, surface finishes, and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.

· Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

· Continuous improvement mindset; Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience preferred.

· Proficiency with engineering and business software, including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications.

· Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally.
