About the Role
As a Medical Assistant in our Orthopedic Surgery Practice, you will provide both clinical and administrative support under the supervision of providers and practice leadership. This role is integral to delivering exceptional orthopedic care to patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions throughout their treatment journey.
You will work alongside orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other care team members to support patient visits, pre- and post-operative care, imaging coordination, casting and splinting, patient education, and follow-up care. This position combines hands-on clinical responsibilities with compassionate patient interaction in a fast-paced specialty practice environment.
What You'll Do
- Support orthopedic surgeons and providers in delivering in-person, telephone, and telehealth patient care.
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, injections, and surgical consultations.
- Obtain and document vital signs, patient histories, medications, and clinical information within the electronic medical record.
- Assist with casting, splinting, wound care, dressing changes, and other orthopedic treatments as directed.
- Coordinate imaging studies, diagnostic testing, referrals, and surgical scheduling.
- Educate patients regarding surgical preparation, post-operative care, recovery expectations, and rehabilitation plans.
- Assist with pre-visit planning and facilitate post-operative follow-up care.
- Maintain exam rooms, clinical supplies, and medical equipment.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, safety, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform administrative duties including scheduling, patient communication, medical records management, and care coordination.
- Participate in staff development, annual competencies, and the onboarding and mentoring of new team members.
- Contribute to a collaborative and patient-focused practice environment.

Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or a minimum of three (3) years of relevant Medical Assistant experience.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer applications.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a clinical environment.
Preferred
- Current Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.
- Previous experience in an orthopedic or surgical specialty practice.
- Knowledge of orthopedic conditions, procedures, casting, and splinting techniques.
- Experience supporting surgical patients throughout pre- and post-operative care.
