RTFNetwork is a mission-driven behavioral health organization dedicated to providing high-quality, client-centered care to underserved communities. We offer outpatient mental health services, psychiatric rehabilitation, and therapy, with plans to expand into substance use disorder services.

We are seeking a Psychiatrist to join our team as a part-time Medical Director, providing medical leadership, clinical oversight, and direct psychiatric care.

Position Summary

The Medical Director will have overall responsibility for clinical services and collaborate with the CEO, Clinical Director, and program leaders to support safe, effective, and coordinated care.

This role combines psychiatric evaluations and medication management with medical oversight, staff consultation, and quality improvement. The ideal candidate is an accessible, dependable leader with strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and a commitment to following through on concerns affecting client care.

The position offers flexible daytime, evening, and weekend scheduling as needed, with scheduled on-site responsibilities and agreed availability for clinical consultation.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Leadership and Clinical Oversight

Provide medical direction and oversight of clinical services, promoting evidence-based, client-centered care.

Collaborate with the Clinical Director and program leaders to establish clinical expectations and address barriers to effective treatment.

Provide medical consultation and guidance to psychiatric providers and clinical staff within the scope of the role.

Participate in leadership meetings, treatment team meetings, and complex case consultations.

Maintain agreed availability to address clinical concerns and coordinate appropriate coverage during absences.

Develop and review clinical policies, medication management protocols, and procedures for responding to urgent clinical concerns.

Participate in chart reviews, quality improvement activities, incident reviews, and corrective action planning.

Support compliance with applicable Maryland regulations, payer requirements, and accreditation standards.

Support appropriate referrals, clinical handoffs, discharge planning, and continuity of care.

Promote professional accountability, respectful teamwork, and timely communication.

Direct Patient Care

Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for children, adolescents, and/or adults, consistent with training and assigned caseload.

Develop individualized treatment plans that align with clients’ goals, clinical needs, and best practices.

Provide medication management, including prescribing, adjusting, and monitoring psychotropic medications for effectiveness, side effects, and adherence.

Conduct follow-up appointments to assess progress, adjust medications, and modify treatment plans as needed.

Provide psychoeducation to clients and families about diagnoses, medications, potential side effects, and treatment options.

Collaborate with therapists, psychiatric rehabilitation staff, case managers, and other care team members to ensure coordinated care.

Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record.

Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals to higher levels of care when appropriate.

Stay current with evidence-based psychiatric practices and professional standards through ongoing education.

Required Qualifications

MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.

Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency.

Active, unrestricted Maryland medical license.

Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.

Current prescribing credentials and registrations appropriate to assigned duties.

Experience providing outpatient psychiatric care.

Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to meet required on-site hours and agreed clinical consultation and leadership responsibilities.

Ability to complete required credentialing and background screening.

Preferred Qualifications

At least three years of psychiatric practice experience.

Previous leadership, clinical supervisory, or Medical Director experience.

Experience in community-based behavioral health and serving underserved populations.

Experience treating children, adolescents, and adults.

Experience treating serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Familiarity with Maryland’s public behavioral health system, psychiatric rehabilitation services, and accreditation processes.
