Our patients come first. Every decision we make and action we take is centred around how we can better respond to their evolving needs, as well as those of healthcare professionals and partners. We are helping to shape patient care for the future, working across the healthcare journey to give hope to millions of people around the world.

About the Role

Are you passionate about science and motivated by the opportunity to make a difference for people living with rare diseases?

This field-based role combines scientific and medical engagement with a strong focus on developing and delivering projects that address specific challenges within rare disease patient pathways. You will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and scientific experts to improve understanding of rare diseases, with particular focus on disease recognition, diagnosis and patient identification.

What You’ll Do

Project Delivery & Medical Initiatives

  • Develop, lead and deliver field-based medical projects and initiatives that respond to identified needs within the local rare disease landscape.
  • Use scientific and healthcare insights to identify opportunities for projects focused on disease recognition, earlier diagnosis, patient identification and improved referral pathways.
  • Take ownership of projects from needs identification and planning through to implementation, stakeholder engagement and evaluation.

Disease Recognition, Diagnosis & Patient Pathways

  • Develop a deep understanding of the rare disease patient journey, with particular focus on disease recognition, diagnosis, patient identification and referral pathways.
  • Identify and understand diagnostic gaps, delays and barriers that may prevent patients from reaching an appropriate diagnosis or specialist care.

Scientific & Cross-Speciality Engagement

  • Build and maintain credible scientific relationships with Key External Experts, healthcare professionals, multidisciplinary teams and specialists across relevant medical disciplines.
  • Engage across specialities to understand how different healthcare professionals contribute to disease recognition, diagnosis, referral and ongoing patient management.

Local Healthcare Landscape

  • Build a detailed understanding of the local healthcare system, diagnostic environment and patient pathways within your country.
  • Understand local referral structures, diagnostic practices and the roles of different healthcare professionals and institutions involved in the patient journey.

Clinical Research & Development

  • Support the identification of potential investigators and clinical research centres.
  • Provide appropriate scientific information relating to clinical research opportunities, including Externally Sponsored Research and Real World Evidence programmes.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • A university degree in a scientific discipline or relevant clinical qualification, combined with appropriate scientific experience.
  • Strong understanding of clinical practice, patient pathways and the healthcare environment.
  • An ability to understand complex diagnostic and referral pathways and identify opportunities to address gaps within the patient journey.
  • Confidence engaging with healthcare professionals across different medical specialities and clinical settings.
  • Confidence discussing complex scientific and clinical information with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop credible relationships and effectively manage multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to take ownership of initiatives from planning through to delivery and evaluation.
  • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel according to the geographical requirements of the role.

Why Join Us?

Rare diseases present some of the most complex challenges in healthcare. Patients can experience delays in disease recognition and diagnosis, complex referral routes and fragmented pathways involving multiple medical specialities.

This role provides an opportunity to go beyond scientific exchange and translate insights into meaningful projects and initiatives. By working closely with the scientific and clinical community, you will help deepen understanding of diagnostic challenges, patient identification and referral pathways, while contributing to Medical Affairs activities designed around the needs of the local healthcare environment.
