Description

The Morgridge Institute for Research, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, seeks a joint tenure track assistant professor to lead a vibrant metabolism-focused research program. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative-minded scientists passionate about mechanistic understanding of metabolism and metabolic regulation, its connections with core biological processes, and innovative approaches to study metabolism. This position will include a joint appointment as an investigator at the Morgridge Institute for Research and as faculty member in one of the potential home departments: the Departments of Chemical & Biological Engineering, Medical Microbiology & Immunology, and Neuroscience at UW-Madison. We welcome investigations of metabolism across diverse physiological and engineering contexts. Areas of

interest across our participating departments include, but are not limited to:

  • Chemical & Biological Engineering: Metabolic engineering, chemical biological technologies in metabolism study, quantitative systems biology.
  • Medical Microbiology & Immunology: Immunometabolism, host-microbe metabolic crosstalk, microbial metabolism.
  • Neuroscience: Neurometabolism, metabolism in the brain, and the metabolic basis of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

This recruitment is part of the Morgridge Institute’s Metabolism Theme and the larger, UW-Madison campus-wide Metabolism Initiative that aims to enhance the pace, productivity, and international profile of metabolism-related research in Madison. The Morgridge Institute is a private interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with UW-Madison, serving as a hub for investigators

affiliated with multiple university departments to work collaboratively on fundamental biomedical questions, and as such offers an extraordinary interdisciplinary work environment. UW-Madison is a world-class academic institution, where the metabolism research community includes hundreds of scientists spanning diverse areas of biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, organismal biology, and medicine. In keeping with our tradition of collaboration and successful joint appointments, the partnering units in this hire will provide mutual support through substantial facilities, access to colleagues with diverse scientific expertise, high-quality training programs, and other resources -offering a wealth of synergistic benefits.

To Apply: Candidates must hold a doctorate degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in related field. Competitive applicants will have a proven track record of high-impact research related to metabolism, a vision for an innovative, significant and impactful research program, the skills to implement it, embrace a collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture, and a commitment to

high quality and inclusive undergraduate and graduate instruction and mentoring.
