The Avery Coonley School is a coeducational Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 8 independent school serving academically bright and gifted students. Located in Downers Grove, approximately 15 miles west of Chicago, Avery Coonley provides a challenging academic environment complemented by a strong commitment to student development through athletics and extracurricular activities.

The Avery Coonley School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Boys’ Volleyball Coach for its interscholastic athletics program. This is a part-time, two-month stipend position .

• Season: Mid-October–mid-December
• Meeting Days: Practices and games are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with the possibility of one Wednesday during playoff week.

Position Summary

Coaches in The Avery Coonley School Athletic Department work collaboratively with their coaching partners to design and implement engaging, challenging, and fun practices.

Our coaching and game-management philosophy centers on the development of each athlete rather than a primary focus on winning . Coaches are expected to create an environment in which athletes can develop their basketball skills, build confidence, learn to work with others, and enjoy the experience of competing.

Coaches are also expected to honor the game by demonstrating respect for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates, and spectators and by modeling the sportsmanship and character we want our athletes to develop.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• •Strong youth coaching skills
• •High school or college basketball playing experience preferred
• •Previous basketball coaching experience preferred
• •Coaching certification or license at any level preferred
• •Detail-oriented and highly organized
• •Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• •Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• •Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and development-focused experience for all athletes
