The Modular Product Developer works within the Product Development organization to execute development activities for ETO Modular Product Platforms under the direction of Product Architects. This individual transforms conceptual requirements, sketches, technical direction, and evolving design decisions into accurate virtual prototypes, models, drawings, submittals, and supporting technical documentation.

The primary focus of this role is early concept development using Revit and other digital design tools to rapidly visualize, evaluate, and refine product solutions before design intent is established. The Product Developer maintains sufficient technical understanding of the complete product to accurately represent dimensions, clearances, interfaces, equipment arrangements, constructability, manufacturability, and site integration within concept-level models and documentation. As concepts mature, the Product Developer supports development and maintenance of master Revit models, reusable BIM content, product configuration content, Product Requirements Document (PRD) supporting information, Component Definition Documents (CDDs), specifications, scope documents and matrices, Illustrated Basis of Design (iBODs), client submittals, vendor- and site-specific submittals, permit submittals, ETO submittal packages, and early Long Lead Equipment (LLE) Bills of Material (BOMs).

The Modular Product Developer collaborates with Product Architects, peer Product Developers, Program Design Managers, Preconstruction, engineering disciplines, subject matter experts (SMEs), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Detailed Design, Construction Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Construction, Operations, vendors, manufacturers, and other cross-functional stakeholders to incorporate requirements, constraints, design changes, and lessons learned into product development deliverables.

Success in this role requires strong technical modeling capability, product thinking, creativity, curiosity, attention to detail, and active participation in a collaborative product development environment. The Modular Product Developer is expected to understand how concept decisions affect downstream engineering, procurement, fabrication, manufacturing, construction integration, and overall product lifecycle performance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Vocational or Technical Certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in engineering drafting or design, engineering technology, industrial technology, manufacturing design, mechanical design, electrical design, architecture, construction, or a related technical field. Equivalent relevant experience may include electrical or mechanical trades, modular construction, manufacturing, field engineering, VDC/BIM, or project management within an engineering or specialty-contractor environment.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in product development, engineering design, BIM/VDC, modular construction, manufacturing, electrical or mechanical construction, or a related technical environment.

Travel: 10-50%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule may vary and can include, but is not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required. Ability to work a flexible schedule is necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop virtual prototypes, product concepts, component designs, and technical solutions that support early concept development, client solutioning, technical evaluation, and rapid design iteration.
  • Translate conceptual requirements, sketches, engineering direction, and evolving technical decisions into accurate, constructable digital models.
  • Develop and maintain master Revit models, reusable BIM content, families, templates, standardized details, and product configuration content under Product Architect direction.
  • Produce accurate 2D concept drawings, layouts, design-intent documentation, submittal packages, and presentation-ready technical documentation.
  • Support development of client, programmatic, vendor-specific, site-specific, permit, and ETO product submittal packages through approval.
  • Support development and maintenance of CDDs, iBODs, design narratives, and other product-definition deliverables; perform scope leveling through specifications, scope documents and matrices, and Comply, Deviate and/or Exclude (CDE) documentation.
  • Support development, validation, and maintenance of early Long Lead Equipment (LLE) Bills of Material (BOMs) and other product data required to support strategic procurement.
  • Review and mark up specifications, vendor and equipment submittals, and technical documentation to identify requirements, gaps, deviations, and information requiring incorporation into product models and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Product Architects, peer Product Developers, SMEs, engineering disciplines, and cross-functional stakeholders to incorporate requirements, interfaces, constraints, and design changes into product deliverables.
  • Maintain model and drawing accuracy for dimensions, clearances, interfaces, equipment layouts, accessibility, constructability, and manufacturability appropriate to the maturity of the design.
  • Ensure product models and documentation clearly communicate approved design intent and are suitable for transition to downstream Detailed Design.
  • Support establishment of the engineering baseline from which Detailed Design develops production-level models, Engineering Bills of Material (EBOMs), fabrication documentation, manufacturing documentation, and engineering releases.
  • Read, understand, and incorporate relevant information from construction design documents to ensure modular products integrate successfully with the overall facility and site design.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain and validate product data, equipment information, materials, and technical documentation required to support development activities.
  • Conduct research on products, components, materials, manufacturers, processes, and technologies to support technical decisions and product improvement.
  • Actively participate in product development meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops by presenting concepts, solution ideas, research, technical findings, and recommendations.
  • Support development and maintenance of schedules for assigned product development activities and deliverables using applicable planning tools.
  • Organize and manage models, drawings, supporting documentation, file structures, revisions, and version control in accordance with company standards and product-development workflows.
  • Identify innovative opportunities to reduce cost and improve standardization, manufacturability, constructability, quality, reusable content, and execution efficiency.
  • Capture and incorporate lessons learned from Detailed Design, Procurement, Fabrication, Manufacturing, Construction, site deployment, and Operations into updated product models and development deliverables.
  • Collaborate with peer Product Developers to develop and continuously improve product design, modeling, documentation, and development best practices.
  • Complete assigned development activities accurately, completely, and on schedul
