- Provides occupational therapy services to patients who have impairments, developmental disabilities, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes under occasional guidance. Actively collaborates with the health care/educational team to meet patient care, outcomes, and system improvement objectives. Experience in driving rehabilitation programs and initiatives is preferred.

Join a Specialized Neuro-Rehabilitation Team
Vanderbilt Health's Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute (PBPRI) is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our nationally recognized outpatient neuro-rehabilitation program.
This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly specialized interdisciplinary team dedicated to helping adults maximize independence, function, participation, and quality of life following neurologic injury or disease. More than 80% of the caseload is focused on adult neurorehabilitation, with opportunities to develop expertise in cognitive rehabilitation, vestibular and balance rehabilitation, vision rehabilitation, seating and mobility, and driving rehabilitation.
About the Role
As part of Vanderbilt's collaborative outpatient neuro-rehabilitation team, you will evaluate and treat adults with a variety of neurologic conditions, including:
- Stroke
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Parkinson's Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Concussion
- Complex neurologic disorders requiring comprehensive rehabilitation
- Driving rehabilitation evaluations and services (based on experience and training)
Working closely with physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, physicians, and caregivers, you will play a vital role in helping patients return to meaningful activities at home, in the community, at work, and in leisure pursuits.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat adults with neurologic diagnoses in an outpatient setting.
- Develop individualized treatment plans focused on independence, safety, participation, and quality of life.
- Deliver evidence-based neurorehabilitation interventions addressing upper extremity recovery, motor control, coordination, and functional performance.
- Assess and treat cognitive and executive functioning deficits affecting daily life, work, and community participation.
- Evaluate and train activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding diagnosis, prognosis, adaptive strategies, home programs, and community resources.
- Complete timely clinical documentation, evaluations, progress reports, and payer-required documentation.
- Participate in specialty programs including cognitive rehabilitation, vestibular and balance rehabilitation, vision rehabilitation, seating and mobility services, and driving rehabilitation based on experience and clinical interests.
- Contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program
- Tennessee Occupational Therapy license or eligibility to obtain prior to start
- Strong clinical reasoning and patient-centered care skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Analyzes comprehensive information from formal and informal assessment that is pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis. • Collaborates with stakeholders in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum. • Applies appropriate, evidence-based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re-evaluates performance to assess patient's progress towards goals. • Employs strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments. • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES • Rehab Therapist Patient Documentation (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in documentation practices. Documents in the appropriate templates and utilizes only approved abbreviations within patient documentation. Meets institutional standards for quality and timeliness of documentation. May complete accurate chart audits of co-workers in the same classification category • Treatment Planning & Goal Setting (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery in developing a plan of care that incorporates treatment interventions focused on meeting objective goals. Develops and documents patient focused short and long term goals that are functional and measurable. Identifies the need for and referral to other services, as needed. May serve as a mentor for other clinical staff to develop their skills in treatment planning. May consult with team members or implement new procedures. • Rehabilitation Therapist Patient Evaluation (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery in evaluating patients with physical deficits including impairments, developmental disabilities, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function by obtaining information pertinent to the assessment and administering and scoring standardized tests and objective measures of deficit areas.
