Position Overview
The Off-Grid Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, and modernization of wireless communication systems supporting infrastructure, including off grid solar power systems, along with the ability to analyze system performance, conduct field testing, and power systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills and hands-on experience with power system design.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and design off grid power systems supporting wireless communications systems including solar power and hybrid solar/generator systems
- Create BOMs, use design tools to determine total power Ah/day required, conversion of AC-DC, DC-DC, load analysis, sizing of solar array, battery storage, controllers and configuration to meet mission critical ALR requirements for severe environments
- Gather customer requirements, determine requirements, develop solutions; provide preliminary designs, cost estimates; support procurement and implementation of wireless communications systems
- Compare solar power systems specifications to requirements and perform system performance validation including field testing.
- Deploy and support off grid solar power systems in the field, support implementation, ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Requirements
- Education BS relevant to job responsibilities preferred; equivalent technical industry experience, years in the field and certifications acceptable
- Current DHS Tier 2 Background Investigation (BI) or DOD Secret with current investigation required to convert to DHS Tier 2 BI
- Minimum 5 - 10 years of relevant experience
- Experience creating full solar power designs including solar panel and battery array configurations and charging systems, and familiarly with solar power design tools.
- Experience integrating power systems with electrical panels, including analysis of all equipment loads across multiple AC and DC power requirements to meet mission-critical requirements
- Experience in developing bill of materials (BOM), compiling technical recommendations, analysis reports, or executive briefings.
- Excellent demonstratable written, inter-personal communications and management skills
- History working with vendors and project teams
- Ability to travel up to 25% to remote field sites; valid driver’s license required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors at remote sites in extreme heat, cold, and austere conditions
