Job Description:
The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position.
The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for an Office Specialist 2. This is a limited duration full-time state position with funding expected through October 2027. This position is located at the Rees Training Center in Hermiston, Oregon.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.

- What You Will be Doing
- The purpose of this position is to perform administrative duties operating the billeting/housing office at Camp Umatilla Armed Forces Training Center. The person in this position politely greets customers, handles customer requests and questions, issues keys and rooms to users, enter reservation data into a computer system which tracks guest usage, handles payments for reservations, and issues and clears state buildings.
- Working Conditions
- This job will be conducted primarily in an office environment but will require occasional excursions outdoors and in inclement weather.
This job will be on a rotating schedule that will require work shifts on Saturdays and Sundays for a period of time.
May be required to come in to work after-hours to address issues such as a customer locking him or herself out of their rented room.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle on and off the installation. Must be able to climb stairs and bend to inspect cleanliness of facilities.
Follow all safety guidelines per the Oregon Military Department and State of Oregon regulations.
What You Need to Qualify
Two (2) years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents

An associate degree in any field
***OR***
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Attributes (th ese are skills and/or experience that we have identified as essential to success in this position).
This position requires experience with reservations and software that is used to make and edit reservations.
Experience processing credit card payments, cash handling, till and deposit reconciliation and investigating discrepancies preferably in a hotel or lodging environment.
Experience creating, tracking and issuing digital room keys, access badges and FOB’s.
Must have outstanding customer service. This position will work with Military members and civilian customers on a regular basis and must have the ability to communicate clearly in all interactions.
This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Suit, and accuracy with typing and data entry.
Preference may be given to candidates with hotel or lodging front desk customer service experience.
- Conditions of Employment
- Must have and maintain a favorable Criminal background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination (T1). (Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment, the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered).
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
