The Superintendent, Mill Operations responsible for the overall management and performance of mill operations, including production planning, workforce leadership, equipment utilization, operational control, and process optimization. Ensures production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company objectives, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Working Conditions
The Mill Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all maintenance activities within the processing plant at GMIN's Oko West operation. The role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment through effective maintenance planning, execution, and supervision. Accountable for equipment availability, workforce performance, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, the Superintendent works collaboratively with operations teams to support production targets and drive continuous improvement in maintenance practices and asset reliability.

Key Responsibilities
1. In collaboration with the Manager, Mill, oversee and implement mill production programs and operations to maximize process performance while minimizing operation costs.
Objectives, targets and standards are established and effectively communicated to operational personnel.
Assist in establishing budget costs and control thereof.
Provide assistance in establishing production targets, ensure mill throughput matches the mining plan and correct or address issues as they arise.
Supervise the execution and implementation of the mill plans and targets.
Supervise the implementation of operational programs, processes and policies to meet organizational governance requirements and standards.
Utilization of human resources to safely, effectively and efficiently perform all required activities to meet objectives
Continuous improvement is an integral part of department activities.
Professional and ethical use of strategy and tactics in grievance resolution
Coordination of activities between various internal/ external departments is effective and efficient.
Active participation for mine mill interface activities to enhance/ maximize process performance is considered a priority.
2. Provide strategy and recommendations
Assist in the development an overall strategy for mill development and production based on input from other departments including targets, goals and priorities.
Investigate options and recommend short- and long-term projects and approaches to enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness of mill operations.
3. Provide leadership to the Mill Operations team
Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.
Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future requirements of the mill.
Ensure the required manpower and equipment is in place to achieve forecasted production, while meeting budgeted costs.
Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.
Requirements
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of related experience
Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
Education/Certification/Designation
University degree in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering or related degree.
Professional designation or certification in a related area.
Technical Skills/Knowledge
Solid working knowledge of milling methods and procedures.
Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines and milling plants.
Computer literate: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SAP, MS Project
Experience and knowledge of :
Health & Safety Management
Emergency Response
ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
A sound knowledge of mining and mineral processing practices and principles
A strong background in equipment repair and maintenance & maintenance management
Ability to interact with employees from entry level positions to Corporate officers & executives
To lead by example while imparting required technical and ethical knowledge
The ability to resolve technical issues without external support; comprehensive / creative trouble shooting.
