The Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami seeks applicants for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible faculty appointment in Political Science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor and will begin August 15, 2027.

We seek a political scientist or policy scholar whose research focuses on artificial intelligence and politics, public policy, governance, or related topics. The ideal candidate will both study the political and policy implications of artificial intelligence, including the ways governments use AI in the context of security, democratic governance, and the public good, and make sophisticated use of AI-based methods in their research. AI represents a critical and rapidly growing area of scholarship as well as an emerging subfield within political science, and we seek a faculty member who can help advance the University's leadership in this area.

We welcome applications from faculty at all career stages, including individuals of exceptional promise or established national prominence whose expertise will enrich and expand the department's research profile and educational curriculum. We are particularly interested in applicants whose work complements existing university strengths in Data Science, Democracy, Public Administration, and Public Policy.

Successful candidates will maintain an active research agenda, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University. The successful candidate will strengthen the College's research capacity by expanding existing strengths in AI and creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The position will also complement existing faculty expertise by providing distinctive strengths that enhance our curriculum and address strategic teaching and research needs.

The successful candidate will contribute to the department's methods curriculum by providing data and computational literacy training to students and by regularly offering courses in research design, quantitative methods, statistical analysis, and related methodological approaches for undergraduate majors and graduate students.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Political Science or a cognate field by the start date of the appointment.

Interested applicants must apply online through the University’s Careers Website . Applicants should compile the following into a single PDF document and upload it under the CV/Resume link: cover letter, CV, research statement, and a teaching statement focusing on your ability to contribute to the undergraduate political science / public administration majors through teaching and mentoring activities. Please arrange for three reference letters to be sent directly to the search chair at umpolsearch@miami.edu. Applications received on or before November 30, 2026, will be given full consideration, though the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.

For further information about the position please contact Dr. Casey Klofstad, Chair, umpolsearch@miami.edu . Additional information about the department is available at http://www.as.miami.edu/politicalscience/ .
