Our logistics teams are changing the way we interact with customers around the globe every single day and solving some of the biggest logistical challenges facing not just Amazon, but the entire industry.

As an Operations Engineer on the Last Mile Engineering team, you will serve as a critical link between field operations and engineering, ensuring that operational pain points are captured, routed, and resolved through structured engineering programs. You will own key feedback mechanisms, reporting tools, and lifecycle processes that drive continuous improvement across the delivery network. This role sits at the intersection of operations and engineering, giving you direct impact on the quality and reliability of Last Mile deployments at scale.

This role is for you if you have (1) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (2) bility to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, (3) Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments where you define the process as much as you execute it

  • Key job responsibilities
  • - Source and prioritize engineering problems by filtering operational listening tools, identifying patterns, and escalating high-impact issues to the right engineering programs
  • - Own and maintain consolidated operational dashboards (e.g., Pulse Dashboard), providing a single-pane-of-glass view into program health, risk, and milestones across the network
  • - Translate operational pain points into actionable engineering requirements, replacing ad hoc handoffs with a structured, repeatable conduit between Operations and Engineering
  • - Manage the master lifecycle template and stage-gate criteria that govern how work progresses from engineering through construction, commissioning, and launch
  • - Build and maintain signal-filtering tools and reporting mechanisms that surface engineering solutions and track program outcomes
  • - Conduct module audits, root-cause deep dives, and engineering design standard reviews, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations
  • - Facilitate cross-functional reviews to align stakeholders on design decisions, process changes, and deployment standards
  • - Build strong working relationships across Engineering, Planning, Operations, Material Handling, and Equipment teams to establish shared mechanisms and align on standards, processes, and solutions
  • A day in the life
  • Every day is a little different, but the throughline is the same: you're the person who makes sure the field's voice reaches engineering — clearly, quickly, and completely. ou're the person on the call who can speak both "ops" and "engineering" fluently — translating a station manager's frustration into a spec an engineer can act on, and explaining back to the field exactly what's being built and why. You own the dashboards that give leadership a single-pane-of-glass view into program health, and you own the tools that make sure the right signals rise above the noise. You'll build relationships across Engineering, Planning, Material Handling, and Operations — not because it's on a checklist, but because solving Last Mile's hardest logistics problems requires all of those voices in the room. If you love connecting dots across complex systems, turning ambiguity into structure, and seeing your work ship at network scale, this is the role where you'll feel it every single day.
  • About the team
  • Strategic Programs & Engineering (SP&E) owns end-to-end delivery of last-mile logistics solutions, from strategic concepts through engineered deployment and quality assurance. The portfolio spans 12 programs across three pillars: (1) Micromobility (Walker, e-Bike, Microhub), (2) Strategic Programs (Island Delivery, Pharmacy, Large Package Solutions (LP59-68 / Radian Free) (FAQ1), Smart TDR, Project LabelTrack, Relay Gate Lite), and (3) Performance Engineering and Quality Assurance (PEQA)

Basic qualifications

  • - 5+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience
  • - Bachelor's degree
  • - Experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, and field execution through launch readiness and go-live phases

Preferred qualifications

  • - Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
  • - Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • - Experience with retrofits, launches, or automation deployments
  • - Experience building launch readiness frameworks, standard work, playbooks, and scalable deployment mechanisms across multiple concurrent sites
