Role Overview

The League Operations Lead is accountable for the overall operational success of an assigned baseball league or operational pillar, ensuring live operations are delivered safely, consistently, and at the highest quality. Acting as the operational owner for the league, this role provides collaboration across Operations, Technical Operations, Product, Engineering, Field Service, and partner teams to drive alignment, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The League Operations Lead maintains end-to-end visibility across league operations, ensuring operational readiness, staffing, hardware readiness, technical support, service quality, and strategic initiatives remain aligned throughout the season. Working closely with Operations Leadership and Senior Leads, this role ensures the right teams are focused on the right priorities while proactively managing operational risks, supporting hardware deployments, and driving long-term operational improvements.

Responsibilities

League Ownership: Manage end-to-end performance, hardware readiness, and execution across assigned leagues or pillars.

Performance Optimization: Track operational metrics, analyze incident trends, and partner with Tech Ops to drive continuous process improvements.

Cross-Functional Alignment: Connect Product, Engineering, Field Service, and Operations to ensure successful technology rollouts and seasonal preparation.

Incident & Risk Mitigation: Lead post-incident reviews, oversee live operational issue resolution, and escalate strategic risks to leadership.

Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the main point of contact for league partners, delivering clear operational reporting and status updates.

Team Support: Mentor Coordinators and Supervisors, address skill gaps, and optimize staffing to ensure high service quality.

What Could a Typical Week Look Like?

In Season

Review the games from the previous day, and conduct an internal root cause analysis.

Assign action items for relevant teams / escalate critical issues.

Present findings and next steps on the external client daily standup.

Liaise with relevant teams for upcoming games.

Prepare / update delivery / data quality reports for Managers.

Ensure upcoming games are resourced appropriately.

Follow up with relevant parties on any operational issues.

Meet with other League Owners and discuss efficiencies, ways of working and potential improvements.

Off-Season

Work with relevant teams to ensure audits are completed in time.

Work on implementing new automations and delivering efficiencies to help operations.

Improve the team's system knowledge and liaise with the Training Manager around knowledge gaps and training needs.

Work with other league owners around recruiting and training plan for the following season.

Work with other teams to provide resourcing help where required.

Prepare and present end of season delivery and data quality reports

Essential Qualifications & Skills

Demonstrated experience leading complex live operations within sports technology, broadcast, or other mission-critical operational environments.

Strong operational leadership with experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing competing priorities.

Working knowledge of live capture systems, hardware deployments, operational infrastructure, and technical support workflows.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across technical and operational teams.

Proven ability to make informed operational decisions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using operational data to drive continuous improvement.

Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day operational oversight.

Ability to coordinate multiple initiatives while maintaining focus on operational quality and service delivery.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

Experience leading operations for professional sports leagues or large-scale live events.

Experience with Hawk-Eye and KinaTrax systems or comparable sports technology platforms.

Knowledge of live operational hardware, acquisition systems, Field Service operations, and technical support processes.

Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Engineering, Product, Technical Operations, and Field Service teams.

Familiarity with operational performance reporting, KPI management, and incident management processes.

Success Measures

Consistent achievement of league operational performance and service quality targets.

High levels of operational readiness, staffing effectiveness, hardware readiness, and technical coordination throughout the season.

Successful implementation of operational improvements that increase efficiency, scalability, reliability, and hardware availability.

Effective management and resolution of operational, technical, and hardware-related risks.

Strong collaboration across Operations, Technical Operations, Product, Engineering, Field Service, and partner organizations.

Positive stakeholder feedback regarding league leadership, communication, and operational execution.

Operations Manager – Report league performance, strategic initiatives, operational risks, and seasonal planning.

Senior Lead – Technical Operations – Coordinate technical priorities, system reliability, technical escalations, infrastructure readiness, and operational tooling.

Senior Lead – Training & Process Optimization – Align training strategies, process improvements, and operational standards.

Operations Coordinators – Coordinate operational priorities, league readiness, staffing support, and issue ownership.

Operations Supervisors – Support live operational delivery, escalations, and execution of league priorities.

Technical Operations Teams – Coordinate technical readiness, system health, software support, and infrastructure improvements.

Field Service Teams – Coordinate hardware deployments, maintenance, repairs, calibrations, seasonal readiness, and site support.

Product & Engineering Teams – Partner on operational improvements, feature development, and technology rollouts.

League Representatives & External Partners – Serve as the primary operational relationship, ensuring successful service delivery and communication.

What This Role Is Not

Not an Operations Manager: Does not own departmental strategy, budgeting, organizational structure, or company-wide operational planning.

Not a Senior Lead – Technical Operations: Does not own technical standards, software architecture, or engineering priorities.

Not a Senior Lead – Training & Process Optimization: Does not own organization-wide training strategy or process governance.

Not a Shift Supervisor: Does not oversee individual live shifts but owns the operational success of the assigned league throughout the season.
