Description

VMG Health is a leading healthcare consulting and transaction advisory firm dedicated to helping healthcare organizations navigate an increasingly complex industry. Our professionals partner with health systems, physician groups, ambulatory providers, private equity firms, and strategic investors to solve critical business challenges through innovative, data-driven solutions.

Overview

VMG Health is seeking a Director who specializes in ophthalmology to join our Specialty Practice Management team. This role consults directly with eye care practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare entities with eye care clinics to improve operational performance, financial outcomes, patient access, and growth strategy.

Our directors collaborate with physician owners, executive leaders, and private equity backed platforms to evaluate practice performance and implement strategies to drive success for our clients. This includes improving patient access, provider productivity, clinic throughput, surgical coordination, financial performance, and organizational alignment.

This role is ideal for a proven problem solver experienced in practice management, healthcare consulting, or who has held executive roles in private practice or another eye care setting. Specialization in one or more of these areas is possible for the right candidate. The environment is highly independent and remote, requiring a self-starter who is comfortable working both autonomously and collaboratively, cultivating new business opportunities, and taking ownership of existing client relationships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with physician owners, executive teams, ASC leaders, practice leadership, and private equity backed organizations through engagements focused on:

Growth planning for independent ophthalmology practices, integrated eye care groups, and multi-location platforms

Strategic initiatives, day-to-day business operations, and practice management support for ophthalmology and ASC leadership teams

Organizational structure and leadership development

Clinic operations, patient flow, scheduling, referral intake, and performance improvement

Operational workflows, staffing resources, and project coordination to support successful execution of client engagements and internal priorities

Financial analysis of practice performance, revenue cycle trends, surgical contribution, and service line economics

Workforce planning, onboarding, employee development, and organizational effectiveness initiatives in collaboration with corporate and practice leaders

Cross-functional projects and special initiatives aligned with VMG Health strategic objectives

Strong presentation skills to educate our clients, contribute to distance learning catalog, and deliver impactful presentations at industry meetings/webinars

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate brings a combination of industry knowledge, analytical thinking, and consulting mindset.

5+ years of experience in ophthalmology, optometry, eye care, or specialty physician practice management

Experience working with independently owned ophthalmology practices, integrated platforms, or growth stage organizations preferred

Strong understanding of ophthalmology practice financial structure, clinic operations, surgical coordination, provider productivity, and subspecialty service lines

Experience analyzing practice financial performance, provider productivity, schedules, and compensation plans, patient access, referral patterns, surgical volume, and operational metrics

Ability to communicate effectively with physician owners and executive leaders

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
