Description

Position Summary: A packer in a fruit packing house is responsible for sorting, inspecting, and packing fresh fruit into containers for shipment or sale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• •Sorting and Inspecting: Ensuring fruit is of high quality by checking for defects, bruises, or spoilage, and removing any damaged pieces.
• •Packing: Carefully packing fruit into boxes, cartons, or other containers, ensuring they are securely arranged to prevent damage during transport.
• •Labeling: Affixing labels or tags to packages with relevant information such as product type, weight, or destination.
• •Quality Control: Maintaining cleanliness and following hygiene standards, ensuring that the packing process meets industry and company quality standards.
• •Operating Equipment: Using packing machinery or manual tools to aid in packaging, sealing, and labeling.
• •Inventory Monitoring: Assisting in managing stock, ensuring that packed items are stored appropriately and ready for distribution.
• •The role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

General Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to regularly lift up to 35lbs or more.

Mobility and Travel:

Travel is not expected for this position.

Handling and Inspection:

• •Lifting and Carrying: Regularly lifting and carrying boxes of fruit or samples, typically weighing up to 30-35 pounds.
• •Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and inspect fruit samples, requiring good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Warehouse and Storage Facilities:

• •Temperature Variations: Exposure to different temperature conditions when visiting refrigerated storage areas.
• •Climbing: Occasionally climbing ladders or steps to access the facility.

Health and Safety:

• •Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use of appropriate PPE when required, such as gloves, safety glasses, earplugs and protective footwear.
• •Safety Protocols: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines, especially in packing and storage facilities.

Visual and Sensory Requirements:

• •Visual Acuity: Good visual acuity to inspect fruit quality and detect any defects or issues.
• •Sensory Evaluation: Ability to use sensory skills such as smell to assess fruit quality.

Communication:

Clear Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person.
