The Painter position within the Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) Finishing Shop will provide a full range of journeyperson painting applications across a diverse set of facilities, including renovation and maintenance work. This position will be a vital part of a large team of trades workers at UW-Madison, providing excellent customer service and creating a safe and enjoyable campus for students, staff, faculty, and guests.

Ongoing/Renewable

Full-Time: 100% FTE

Monday-Friday: 7:00am – 3:30pm

Occasional nights, weekends and holidays may be required for this position. Work is performed onsite.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Prepare wall surfaces to remove/install various types of wall coverings

Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations

Prepares and levels dry wall

Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations

Responsible for lead abatement activity to include the disposal of lead based materials according to federal and state regulations

Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess and determine specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client

Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs

Completes skilled painting work, color matching, and mixing according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes

Apply paint using various types of spray equipment, including maintenance of equipment to ensure proper operation

The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

Compensation:

Minimum $40.44 Hourly Rate

Crafts Workers may elect an increased vacation allocation with a corresponding reduction to the prevailing rate

  • 100 hour leave rate: $41.75
  • 140 hour leave rate: $41.08
  • 180 hour leave rate: $40.44

Required Qualifications:

  • Painting & Decorating Apprenticeship or verifiable 6,240 hours of related experience
  • Ability to work in (small/large) teams
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers
  • Effective verbal and written digital communication (email, phone, and text)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Drivers License Required - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
