Trinity University is seeking a Part-Time Faculty for the Spring 2027 semester to teach the following course:

GNED-3430-1: Moral Imagination and US Incarceration

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical responsibilities of part-time faculty members include but are not limited to:

  • Developing the course syllabus and ensuring that the syllabus meets departmental and University standards
  • Designing and delivering lectures, discussions, in-class activities, and assignments
  • Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams
  • Assigning early, midterm, and final grades in compliance with University deadlines
  • Maintaining office hours as directed by the department chair or program director
  • Making student accommodations as determined by the Office of Student Accessibility Services
  • Adhering to all instructional policies as published in the Faculty Handbook and the Courses of Study Bulletin

APPOINTMENT DETAILS

This position is a non-renewable, one-semester appointment. The instructor will be responsible for coordinating the experiential component of the class, a weekly learning circle inside a prison. The instructor will need to arrange for the transportation of students to the prison and the coordination and oversight of students while at the prison.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Required: A master’s degree in a relevant subject.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Prior experience in facilitating the Philosophy and Literature Circle with undergraduate students at a Texas prison or jail.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Ability to deliver engaging lectures, discussions, or in-class activities
  • Ability to design rigorous and meaningful assignments
  • Commitment to the liberal arts mission of Trinity University

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Successful candidate must be able to drive a van to the program site.
