The k-8 school librarian is a dedicated, passionate, and innovative educator, fostering a love for reading, promoting information literacy, and providing resources that inspire curiosity and creativity among our students. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Lead Librarian to enhance the educational experience by collaborating with teachers across grade levels to enhance the learning experience in each classroom and support curricular goals across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Library Instruction & Curriculum Support:
  • Teach library and research skills to students in grades K-8, integrating these skills into classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support inquiry-based learning initiatives.
  • Lead engaging storytimes, reading programs, and workshops that promote literacy and a love for reading among students.
  • Provide instruction on research skills, information literacy, and digital citizenship to students across all grade levels.
  • Develop grade-level specific curricular support materials and resources in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking and research skills through hands-on learning experiences.
  • Stay informed about current trends in children's literature and educational technology to enhance the library program.
  • Program Coordination:
  • Lead the planning, coordination, exection of DEAR Day, Book Fest, and author visits, ensuring engaging and inclusive experiences for students.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Librarian and classroom teachers in the continued execution and enhancement of Live Oak School’s library program
  • Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and community groups to promote library services and programs.
  • Actively engage with the school community, parents, and local organizations to promote library services and resources.
  • Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with the Lead Librarian in developing library programs, resources, and services that align with the school's mission and curriculum.
  • Provide support to students and teachers in utilizing library resources effectively.
  • Support the Lead Librarian with additional programs or duties as assigned
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of library collections, ensuring resources are accessible, culturally responsive, inclusive, and up-to-date.
  • Participate in staff meetings, grade-level meetings, supervision duties, Camp Live Oak, and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Librarian to support the overall goals of the library and school community.

Qualifications:

  • California Teaching Credential or equivalent certification, with a focus on library media or education.
  • A Master's degree in Library Science or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in School Library Media or relevant endorsements that demonstrate expertise in library practices preferred.
  • Experience working in a K-8 educational setting and knowledge of current trends in library media.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students and staff.
  • Proficiency in using library management software, digital resources, and technology integration in the classroom.
