As a Pathology Technician at MercyOne, you will perform high complexity tissue grossing in the surgical pathology area and assists with autopsies.

• •Under the direction of a pathologist or pathologist’s assistant, performs gross description and specimen dissection of simple surgical specimens and prepares/fixes semi-complex surgical specimens.
• •Processes cytology specimens under supervision of cytotechnologists.
• •Performs instrument maintenance according to established protocols.
• •Assists pathologist and pathologist’s assistants in performance of autopsies, and frozen sections.
• •Responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the morgue.
• •Registers patients in Atlas system and accessions cases in Cerner.
• •Identifies and logs specimens with incorrect, discrepant, or missing information, and resolves in partnership with the resolution department.
• •Monitor pending logs and resolve outstanding orders in a timely manner.
• •Discards surgical tissue according to policy.
• •Files slides and blocks.
• •Assists with training new employees.
• •Maintains supply inventories.
• •Supports and utilizes LEAN principles and standard work.

Schedule: M-F 1230p-9p no weekends or holidays

General Requirements:

• •A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field OR education equivalent that includes the following:
• •24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR
• •24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

• •Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.
• •Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• •Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
• •Good hand-eye coordination.
• •Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.
