Join Our Team

Wise Path Recovery Centers is hiring a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) for our new Camp Baer location in the Morgantown/Westover area.

This is an opportunity to use lived experience, professional peer support skills, and a passion for recovery to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals working toward long-term recovery from substance use disorders.

At Wise Path, we believe recovery is possible and that connection matters. Our Peer Recovery Support Specialists bring something uniquely valuable to the treatment team: the ability to walk alongside patients with understanding, hope, accountability, and a real-world perspective on recovery.

About Us

Wise Path Recovery Centers, operated by Ascension Recovery Services, provides integrated behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment through evidence-based, high-quality care.

Our mission is to empower individuals on their own pathways to recovery while creating an environment built around kindness, teamwork, empathy, integrity, excellence, and being mission driven.

Why Join Wise Path?

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to helping individuals build sustainable lives in recovery. This role provides the opportunity to:

Use your lived experience to help others find hope and build recovery capital.

Build meaningful connections with patients throughout their treatment journey.

Work alongside clinical, medical, case management, and recovery support professionals.

Help patients overcome barriers and connect with recovery resources in the community.

Be part of the opening team at a new treatment center and help shape its culture from the beginning.

Continue developing professionally within the behavioral health and substance use disorder field.

What You’ll Do

As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you will provide non-clinical, recovery-focused support to individuals receiving substance use disorder treatment.

Responsibilities include:

Build supportive, professional relationships with patients based on trust, respect, shared experience, and recovery principles.

Use appropriate lived experience to provide encouragement, hope, mentorship, and practical recovery support.

Help patients identify personal recovery goals and strengthen their recovery capital.

Assist patients in identifying and overcoming barriers that may interfere with sustained recovery.

Help patients develop recovery skills, healthy routines, coping strategies, and community connections.

Connect patients with mutual-support meetings, peer networks, community resources, and other recovery-oriented services.

Support patients in developing a strong recovery community before transitioning from treatment.

Reinforce treatment goals and encourage continued engagement in clinical and recovery services.

Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, medical staff, BHTs, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Participate in treatment team meetings and communicate relevant patient needs or concerns to appropriate team members.

Complete required documentation accurately and timely in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Maintain appropriate professional and ethical boundaries with patients at all times.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, organizational policies, and applicable state and federal requirements.

Recognize and promptly communicate safety concerns, relapse risks, behavioral changes, or other concerns to the appropriate clinical or supervisory team member.

Participate in required training, supervision, competency assessments, and professional development.

Maintain all required Peer Recovery Support Specialist credentials throughout employment.

Perform other duties related to peer recovery support and patient care as assigned.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate understands recovery as a process and knows how powerful it can be for someone entering treatment to connect with another person who has walked a similar path.

You are:

Passionate about helping others achieve and maintain recovery.

Comfortable sharing appropriate aspects of your own recovery experience when therapeutically helpful.

Able to establish strong relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally grounded.

Able to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds and recovery pathways.

Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.

Able to communicate concerns appropriately without stepping outside the scope of the peer role.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Personal lived experience with substance use disorder and recovery consistent with West Virginia Peer Recovery Support Specialist requirements.

Current and active West Virginia Peer Recovery Support Specialist certification required or ability to obtain required certification prior to independently providing PRSS services.

Certification must remain active and in good standing throughout employment.

Ability to complete all required facility orientation, competency, compliance, confidentiality, and safety training.

Ability to successfully complete required background screening and pre-employment requirements.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation.

Experience working in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, recovery housing, community recovery services, or a related setting preferred.

West Virginia Medicaid recognizes PRSS services as recovery-focused, nonclinical services provided by individuals with direct lived experience of addiction and recovery. Current state guidance requires an active West Virginia peer recovery certification for Medicaid PRSS services.

Work Conditions

Work is primarily performed within a behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment environment.

Position requires regular interaction with patients who may be experiencing emotional distress, behavioral health symptoms, or challenges associated with early recovery.

May require standing, walking, sitting, and moving throughout the facility for extended periods.

Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or other shifts based on patient and facility needs.

Compensation

Competitive hourly compensation based on experience, qualifications, certification, and internal equity.
