About You

You’re an experienced Senior HR Generalist or People & Culture Business Partner who enjoys being close to the business, building strong relationships with leaders and taking ownership of the full employee lifecycle.

You’re practical, commercially minded and confident working through complex people matters. You take the time to understand what the business is trying to achieve, assess the risk and provide clear, balanced advice that supports both the business and our people. You’re comfortable working independently and being the go-to P&C person for Victoria, while staying connected to and supported by a broader national P&C team.

Most importantly, you’re approachable, down to earth and comfortable working across both office and field-based environments.

About the Role

Based at our Keysborough branch, this role will be the senior, hands-on People & Culture partner for our Victorian operations. Reporting to the General Manager – Victoria, with support and connection to our national P&C team, you’ll take ownership of P&C locally and work closely with our leadership team to continue building strong people practices across the state. You will also provide leadership and support to our Victorian P&C Coordinator.

The breadth of the role spans business partnering, ER, culture and change, recruitment and retention, capability, WHS/RTW, IR and compliance, national projects, people leadership and HR analytics.

Your responsibilities will include:

Partnering with the GM, Branch Managers and leaders across Victoria on day-to-day and strategic people matters

Managing employee relations matters end to end, including performance, conduct, grievances, investigations and terminations

Coaching leadpers through performance conversations, workforce planning, change and team leadership

Supporting organisational change, including consultation and communication

Owning local recruitment, attraction and retention strategies across field and office-based roles

Overseeing onboarding and induction across Victoria

Identifying capability gaps and supporting training, development and succession planning

Partnering with Safety and Return to Work on wellbeing, psychosocial hazards and escalated injury management matters

Interpreting and applying Modern Awards, enterprise agreements and relevant workplace legislation

Using people data including turnover, engagement, absenteeism and employee relations trends to identify opportunities and provide recommendations

Leading, coaching and developing the Victorian P&C Coordinator

Contributing to and leading national P&C initiatives including eNPS, salary reviews, policy updates and HR systems/process improvements

About you

5+ years’ experience in a hands-on HR Generalist or P&C Business Partner role with end-to-end accountability

Experience within construction, trades, manufacturing, logistics or another field-based or multi-site environment will be highly regarded

Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations or a related field, or equivalent experience

Strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, NES, Modern Awards and enterprise agreements, along with relevant Victorian legislation

Proven experience managing employee relations matters from start to finish, including investigations, performance management, misconduct and terminations

Commercial and pragmatic approach with the ability to balance business outcomes, risk and compliance

Strong coaching and influencing skills with the confidence to work with leaders at all levels

Experience supporting culture, engagement and change initiatives

Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and manage competing priorities

Previous experience leading, coaching or developing a direct report

Strong HR systems and data capability, with BambooHR experience advantageous

Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to Victorian branches and sites, with occasional travel to our Gold Coast Head Office

What Buildsafe Can Offer You

Permanent full-time position

Competitive salary with annual salary reviews

Some work-from-home flexibility following probation

Opportunity to lead P&C locally while being part of an experienced national P&C team

Direct leadership responsibility for our Victorian P&C Coordinator
