Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Physician, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Serves as a Physician (Public Health) and medical authority providing clinical and health services research expertise in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of disease prevention research studies and interventions. Develops and reviews study protocols, clinical trial safety data collection instruments, questionnaires, and related research documentation. Provides medical oversight of clinical and applied public health research activities to ensure standardized protocols, appropriate procedures, and clinical practice guidelines are properly implemented. Analyzes clinical trial safety and site performance data, evaluates study processes and outcomes, identifies deficiencies, and recommends appropriate corrective actions. Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data from intramural and extramural disease prevention studies and conducts clinical and health services research to evaluate program effectiveness, health outcomes, and research findings. Prepares scientific reports, tables, graphs, and other professional materials and makes recommendations based on research and evaluation findings. Collaborates with program managers, policymakers, researchers, and public health experts across CDC, other Federal agencies, State and local health departments, and nongovernmental organizations to improve the quality and scientific rigor of health services research and program evaluation. Reviews research proposals and protocols and provides recommendations concerning study design, methodology, policy implications, and programmatic impact. Ensures research protocols and supporting documentation comply with applicable institutional review requirements and research procedures. Provides technical oversight of research projects and contracts and communicates scientific findings through reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, and national or international scientific meetings

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Requirements: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Must upload transcripts) OR Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Must upload transcripts) AND License Requirement: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Must upload proof of license) AND Graduate Training Requirement (Must be documented within resume): Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada as follows: An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. AND Additional Requirement for GS-13: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. AND Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: Providing medical and clinical expertise in the design, implementation, monitoring, or evaluation of applied public health, disease prevention, clinical, or health services research studies. Reviewing and analyzing clinical trial, research, or public health data to evaluate study performance, safety, health outcomes, or program effectiveness and recommending corrective actions or improvements. Developing or reviewing research protocols, study methodologies, data collection instruments, or scientific reports and providing recommendations regarding research design, clinical considerations, policy implications, or programmatic impact. Collaborating with multidisciplinary researchers, public health professionals, healthcare providers, governmental agencies, or other partners to conduct research, evaluate public health programs, and communicate scientific findings and recommendations.
