The Platform Engineer II is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and improving technology platforms that support GreatAmerica's business and technology operations. This role partners with technology and business teams to deliver secure, reliable, scalable, and efficient platform solutions while driving automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Platform Engineers independently manage platform capabilities, support incident resolution, and contribute to the overall health, security, and performance of assigned platforms. This role operates with an understanding of risk, compliance, and audit expectations within a regulated financial services environment. Based on the domain supported, platforms may include business applications, cloud services, infrastructure, integration technologies, data platforms, or developer enablement tools.

As a Platform Engineer II, you will:

• •Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation; reduce manual effort through repeatable processes
• •Write and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to provision and manage cloud and platform infrastructure in a consistent, version-controlled way
• •Build and maintain containerized services and deployment pipelines; apply GitOps practices so environment changes are driven from version-controlled source rather than manual steps
• •Deploy and manage Kubernetes workloads (Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, DaemonSets); package applications with Helm and configure storage and basic networking (Ingress, network policies) for owned services
• •Maintain accurate configuration management records and incident/problem/change process discipline for owned platforms
• •Monitor platform performance; troubleshoot issues and serve as an escalation point; participate in incident response and root cause analysis
• •Build monitoring and alerting that surfaces upstream vendor or integration failures clearly and early, rather than only at the point of downstream impact
• •Implement and maintain security controls and access management; support audit and compliance activities
• •Partner with engineering and business teams on platform best practices and reusable tooling

To be successful in this role you will need:

• •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
• •3+ years of experience supporting, engineering, or administering technology platforms.

Skills and Abilities

• •Working knowledge of a major cloud platform (Azure/AWS/GCP); relevant certification a plus
• •Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps Pipelines/GitHub Actions/Jenkins)
• •Proficiency with source control tools (GitHub/Bitbucket/Azure DevOps) and GitOps workflows (environment promotion and deployment driven from version-controlled config)
• •Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform) and deployment automation
• •Working knowledge of IT service management and CMDB practices (Jira/ServiceNow)
• •Strong working knowledge of JSON/YAML for configuration, templating, and manifests
• •Working knowledge of containerization (Docker); hands-on Kubernetes experience (creating and managing workloads, packaging applications with Helm, configuring basic Ingress and network policies) a plus
• •Familiarity with persistent storage concepts in Kubernetes (Persistent Volumes/Claims, storage classes) a plus
• •Basic Linux fundamentals (command line, scripting, everyday administration and troubleshooting)
• •Proficiency in Bash and/or Python for automation and tooling
• •Basic programming or scripting ability (.NET/Java/JavaScript/TypeScript)
• •Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, routing, firewall/security group rules) as applied to cloud and cluster environments
• •Proficiency in SQL (SQL Server/PostgreSQL) or configuration-as-data concepts
• •Working knowledge of role-based access control (RBAC) and secrets management in cloud and cluster environments
• •Experience building observability (logging, metrics, alerting) that distinguishes platform-internal issues from upstream vendor or integration failures
• •Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
