We are seeking a Playwright Automation Architect to define and own the test automation strategy, framework architecture and quality-engineering toolchain across enterprise applications. You will design scalable, maintainable Playwright frameworks, integrate them with ALM, CI/CD and observability platforms, and introduce AI-assisted test engineering in a governed, production-ready way.

This is a hands-on architecture role: you will set standards, build the reference framework, guide and mentor engineers, and advise stakeholders on automation approach, tooling and return on investment.

Programming languages: TypeScript (preferred) with JavaScript, with knowledge of Java/Python/C# for integration with existing enterprise assets.

Responsibilities

1. Automation Strategy, Architecture & Governance

Define test automation strategy, scope, automation candidates, best practices and test pyramid adoption.

Conduct automation feasibility, tool evaluation, ROI assessment and business case creation.

Establish framework standards, coding guidelines, review practices and reusable components.

Lead migration from legacy tools (Selenium, Cypress, commercial tools) to Playwright.

Define and monitor quality KPIs and gates including coverage, stability, execution time and defect leakage.

Manage framework lifecycle, dependency management, Playwright upgrades and maintainability.

2. Test Automation Framework Design & Implementation

Design and implement Playwright automation frameworks using BDD with Gherkin (playwright-bdd/Cucumber).

Utilize Playwright fixtures for page objects, shared state management and reusable test setup.

Configure playwright.config for environments, projects, cross-browser execution, parallelization, worker processes, sharding, and headless/headed modes.

Enable selective execution using tags, grep filters and suite/project configurations.

Implement resilient locators, web-first assertions and stable automation practices.

Develop data-driven tests using Scenario Outlines, Examples tables and DataTables.

Automate Web UI, APIs using Playwright Request Context, and mobile-browser scenarios through device emulation.

Implement screenshots, video recording, tracing, structured logging, custom reporting and visual regression testing.

Design test data management, environment strategies, authentication handling (SSO/MFA, storage state) and secure secret management.

3. Generative & Agentic AI in Quality Engineering

Integrate Playwright AI capabilities such as planner, generator and healer for accelerated test creation from requirements and user stories.

Configure and leverage Playwright MCP Server and related MCP tools for AI-assisted exploration, authoring and maintenance.

Drive measurable ROI through AI-led quality engineering initiatives and automation acceleration.

4. Toolchain Integration & Test Observability -Integrate Playwright with Jira, Xray, Zephyr and other ALM/Test Management tools.

Build CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitLab CI or equivalent platforms, supporting Docker execution, parallel runs, sharding and quality gates.

Integrate observability and reporting tools such as ReportPort

5. Non-Functional Test Automation -Implement accessibility testing using axe-core (@axe-core/playwright).

Technical requirements

13+ years of experience in quality engineering, including 10+ years in functional test automation using commercial and open-source tools and frameworks.

3+ years of hands-on experience designing and building frameworks with Playwright (or equivalent depth in Selenium/Cypress with demonstrated, recent Playwright delivery).

Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, and solid object-oriented programming fundamentals. Working knowledge of Java/ Python/ C#.

Proven experience implementing BDD frameworks with Gherkin and Cucumber-based tooling.

Proven experience designing and implementing end-to-end test automation across enterprise engagements.

Proven experience in automation feasibility analysis, tool selection and return-on-investment analysis.

Hands-on experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitLab or similar) and with test-management/ALM integration (Jira with Xray or Zephyr).

Hands-on experience applying Generative and/or Agentic AI to quality engineering (e.g., AI-assisted test generation, self-healing, or MCP-based tooling) in a real project, with the ability to describe outcomes and lessons learned.

Experience leading or mentoring automation teams and acting as a technical authority on framework decisions.

Additional responsibilities

Experience with test observability and dashboards (ReportPortal, Allure) and quality-gate design.

Docker and Kubernetes for scalable, containerized test execution; cloud CI infrastructure (Azure, AWS or GCP).

Experience with API, performance and contract-testing tools (e.g., Specmatic) alongside Playwright.

Accessibility (WCAG) and application-security (OWASP) testing knowledge.

Familiarity with LLM evaluation and guardrails, and with securing AI tooling used in delivery pipelines.

Industry-recognized certifications on Cloud, Generative and Agentic AI
