The Department of Radiation Oncology at TUM University hospital is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Radiation Biology Research Group .

Our research focuses on translating novel radiotherapy concepts from experimental models toward clinical application , with a particular emphasis on spatially fractionated radiotherapy (SFRT) . We aim to understand the biological mechanisms underlying tumor response and normal-tissue tolerance and to establish the preclinical evidence required for future clinical trials.

The position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of radiobiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics within an interdisciplinary translational research environment.

Your responsibilities:

  • Irradiation and dosimetry of mouse cohorts using MBRT and conventional radiation, across single- vs. multi-fraction regimens
  • Longitudinal neurobehavioral testing
  • Histological and immunohistochemical analysis of neuroinflammation, vascular, and structural brain changes
  • Neurotransmitter profiling and biomarker analysis
  • Statistical and integrative analysis of dose-response and biomarker data to define normal-brain tolerance thresholds
  • Close collaboration with scientists and clinicians from radiation oncology, medical physics, and radiobiology, and translation of findings into clinically relevant concepts for future MBRT trials

Your profile:

  • We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong interest in experimental and translational radiation oncology and radiobiology
  • A doctoral degree in biology, biomedical sciences, veterinary medicine, or a related field is required
  • Experience with preclinical in vivo models and animal experimentation is desirable
  • Expertise in tumor cell culture, histology, immunohistochemistry, or molecular biology would be an advantage
  • A background in radiation biology and radiation-induced normal-tissue effects would be advantageous
  • The ability to independently plan, conduct, analyze, and document experimental studies is expected
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary and translational research at the interface of radiation oncology, medical physics, and biology is essential
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment are required
  • Flexibility and mobility to make full use of the scientific opportunities and research infrastructure available across TUM sites (TUM University Hospital Rechts der Isar and the Garching Research Campus)
  • Good written and spoken English skills are essential

We offer you:
