Job Description:

The group of Professor Constantin Schrade in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in theoretical condensed matter physics.

The successful candidate will work on theoretical questions involving altermagnetic materials. Current interests of the group include unconventional magnetism, the microscopic theory of superconductivity, and hybrid materials. The candidate will also have opportunities to develop related projects in these broader research areas. Responsibilities include conducting theoretical and computational research, collaborating with experimental groups, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and contributing to the mentoring of graduate students.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. Candidates who have completed all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation will be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the employment start date.

Preferred qualifications: We particularly welcome applicants with experience in magnetism, spintronics, superconductivity, or mesoscopic transport, together with strong analytical and numerical skills. Prior experience with altermagnetism is not required. We value curiosity, initiative, and enthusiasm for exploring new research directions.

The position is for two years, subject to funding availability and/or satisfactory job performance, with a possibility of extending the contract further. The start date is flexible, with the position available from November 2026. Applicants are encouraged to visit the group’s website ( www.constantinschrade.com ) for more information about our research. Prospective applicants are welcome to contact Professor Constantin Schrade at cschrade@lsu.edu with questions or to discuss how their research interests might fit the position.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.

Additional Job Description:

The successful candidate will join a young and growing group working at the intersection of quantum materials, magnetism, and superconductivity, with strong ties to experimental collaborators. The position offers opportunities to help shape the group’s research directions, develop independent ideas, co-supervise graduate students, and build an independent research profile.

Our group is part of LSU’s Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics, which hosts research across many areas of quantum materials and quantum information science. Through the group of Professor Jim Sauls (Hearne Chair of Theoretical Physics), the department is closely linked to the DOE’s Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center.

LSU is situated in Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s vibrant capital, known for its rich cultural and culinary scene, mild winters, and proximity to the New Orleans metropolitan area.
