About The Role

What if your next project didn't end up as a slide in a deck, but as technology actually running in an airport, a highway, a solar or wind power plant, or a data center?

We are looking for a hands-on technical innovation leader who can work where energy strategy becomes real infrastructure: storage, grid connection, microgrids, electrification, critical power, resilience and renewable generation. You will assess emerging technologies with rigor, shape practical use cases and lead them through testing and validation, building the evidence the business needs to decide whether to invest, scale or stop.

You will join Corporate Innovation and work across Ferrovial’s businesses: Airports, Cintra, Ferrovial Energy and Digital Infrastructure. Success in the role requires strong engineering judgement, the ability to distinguish genuine breakthroughs from incremental improvements, and the credibility to engage technical and business stakeholders alike—translating complex challenges into well-structured pilots, clear investment decisions and scalable business opportunities.

This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of infrastructure by bringing cutting-edge technologies from concept to real-world deployment across a global leader in the sector. Experience in mission-critical environments, including data centers, is a plus, but not essential.

Key Responsibilitie s

• •Lead energy, sustainability and resilience projects from technology identification through pilot, business case and scale-up recommendation
• •Design and run proofs of concept with business units, OEMs, engineering partners, research centers and startups — setting your own KPIs and decision gates
• •Bring real engineering judgment to grid connection, electrification, storage, microgrids, critical power, energy management and renewable generation infrastructure (solar and wind plants)
• •Translate complex technical options and uncertainty into clear business cases for senior leadership
• •Explore emerging low-carbon technologies — carbon capture and utilization, green molecules, hydrogen, e-fuels, biogenic routes — and assess their real potential
• •Optionally contribute to projects on low-carbon materials, embodied carbon and circularity

Qualification s

• •Hold an engineering or equivalent technical degree, ideally in electrical, energy, mechanical, industrial, civil or building-services engineering
• •8–12 years of experience in corporate innovation, technical office roles, or critical asset operations (energy, renewables, infrastructure, data centers)
• •Real engineering judgment, not just strategic vision — you can defend a technical decision, not just frame one
• •Relevant knowledge of energy and infrastructure systems—including grid connection, electrification, efficiency, storage, microgrids, controls, critical power or energy management—and how they interact with thermal, water and resilience requirements
• •Familiarity with low-carbon materials, carbon technologies, embodied carbon, circularity and lifecycle value, with sound judgement on when to involve Ferrovial’s specialist teams
• •Ability to build effective relationships across business units and with operators, OEMs, engineering partners, startups, universities and investors, acting as a connector rather than an operational owner
• •Ability to move across asset classes: what you learn on a wind farm should be useful on an airport, a highway or a data center
• •A drive to see things through: you don't stop at validation — you want to see the technology scale
• •Comfort working with uncertainty and with very different stakeholders — from an OEM engineer to a business director

We are not looking for a purely strategic profile without hands-on engineering. Someone who prefers staying in day-to-day operations rather than pushing change forward. Someone who wants to specialize in a single asset class.
