MILITARY MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED**
Duties
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Army National Guard. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: You must meet the minimum military rank as specified in this announcement. Please note that exceeding the maximum rank does not automatically qualify you for consideration. Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. The National Guard's full-time support program requires that all military technicians are members of the National Guard and are appointed to full-time positions which correspond to their military assignments. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Minimum Military Rank: E5/SGT Maximum Military Rank: E6/SSG Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment. This position is located in a State ARNG Aviation Support Facility (AASF)/Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD)/Army Aviation Training Site (ATTS) Logistics Function. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. The position oversees and directs the work of WG-5378, Powered Support Systems Mechanics, who are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop. Duties: (1) Serves as a Small Shop Chief performing all of the following tasks: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). Possesses the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements. (2) Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit. (3) Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. (4) Participates in various types of readiness preparations, inspections, evaluations, and mobilization and command support exercises. Performs additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment. May serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. (5) Performs other duties as assigned. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): PCS not authorized. Relocation Incentive: Incentive may be authorized. Selected Reserve Incentive Program: Acceptance of this position will cause termination of Federal bonuses pursuant to respective Selected Reserve Incentive Programs (SRIP). This termination may be with or without recoupment of payments already made. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military rank and assignment in the District of Columbia Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Please be advised: 1.
