Role Summary and Purpose

Arch Insurance International is seeking a nearly qualified or qualified Actuary to support the continued growth and development of Arch’s European business.

This is a broad, business-facing pricing role, providing actuarial pricing support across lines of business including Property, Casualty, Marine, Financial Lines and other Specialty classes. The role will work closely with underwriting colleagues in Paris, Madrid and Milan, alongside close collaboration with the actuarial and pricing teams in London and Dublin.

Supported by Arch's London Pricing Centre of Excellence, the successful candidate will help develop, enhance and localise pricing capabilities for AIEU’s European business, bringing local market insight into model development while supporting underwriting teams across multiple European markets. As part of AIEU's actuarial team and reporting to the Chief Actuary of AIEU, the role will support the strategic development of the European business while collaborating closely with pricing colleagues across Arch Insurance International.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

1.

Pricing

  • Development of pricing models: Support the development, enhancement and localisation of pricing models and tools for business written through Arch’s European branches, ensuring appropriate governance around model development and use.
  • Account Pricing: Provide actuarial support to underwriters on individual account pricing, particularly for larger and more complex risks, using appropriate actuarial pricing methods and commercial judgement.
  • Price Monitoring: Manage regular price monitoring for renewal & new business, identifying weaknesses in the current approach and working with underwriting managers and pricing colleagues to implement improvements.
  • Market Awareness: Maintain awareness of market trends, including rate and loss cost trends.

2.

Planning & Forecast

  • Planning Support: Work with reserving, pricing and underwriting teams to develop expected loss ratios, emergence patterns and anticipated return metrics for each business segment as part of the planning process.
  • Bridging Analysis: Support analysis between pricing, planning and reserving views of performance, helping management understand movements in expected profitability and portfolio mix.

3.

MI Reporting

  • Monthly MI Reporting: Develop, maintain and communicate findings from MI reports on key movements by line of business.
  • Portfolio insight: Provide actuarial insight to underwriters and management on emerging trends, areas of opportunity and areas requiring further review.

4.

General Responsibilities

In addition to the specific deliverables listed above, the candidate will also need to focus on the following, more general objectives.

  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with underwriters, management, and actuarial teams across Europe and the wider Arch organisation.
  • Professional Development: Maintain continuous professional development, technical skills and professional credentials.

Role Requirements & Skills

Skills / Competencies

· Fluent written and spoken English is required.

· Proficiency in French, Spanish or Italian would be highly desirable given the level of interaction with underwriting teams across continental Europe.

· Strong technical actuarial capability, with a practical and commercial approach.

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain actuarial concepts clearly to underwriters and senior stakeholders.

· Confidence working independently within a geographically dispersed team.

· Strong relationship-building skills and willingness to work closely with underwriting teams.

· Ability to balance technical rigour with commercial judgement.

· Interest in European markets and the local nuances that influence underwriting and pricing.

· Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple lines of business and stakeholders.

· Advanced Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

Qualifications

· Either a nearly qualified or qualified Actuary.

Experience

· At least 5 years of experience in General Insurance.

· Experience in specialty pricing would be beneficial, but personal fit, commercial judgement and relationship-building skills will be equally important given the breadth of the role and the need to work effectively across a range of specialty classes and European markets.
