The opportunity
We're looking for a Pricing & Risk Analyst to help us find where Kin can grow profitably, state by state and segment by segment. As Kin grows, understanding how each state is performing, and why, is central to deciding where to grow and how to price for it. This role sits on our Pricing and Risk Management team and focuses on state growth and segmentation. You'll work alongside state managers and business partners to turn policy, quote, and claims data into practical recommendations.
This is an entry-level role built for someone curious and detail-oriented who wants to learn how analytics shape real pricing and risk decisions. AI is part of how this team works every day. You'll use Databricks Genie, Claude Code, and approved MCP connections to explore data, automate recurring work, and spend more of your time on the questions that matter. Experienced Pricing and Risk colleagues will guide you as you build knowledge of insurance metrics, pricing, segmentation, and state performance. Prior insurance expertise isn't expected, and neither is experience with every tool in our stack.
Your responsibilities
Own recurring state performance reporting on quote volume, quote-to-bind conversion, new business, premium, retention, and loss experience, and investigate what's driving changes in results
Analyze performance across geography, risk characteristics, coverage, and distribution channels to surface growth opportunities and segments that need closer review
Evaluate how proposed rate changes, underwriting rules, and shifts in business mix could affect growth and profitability
Build and maintain competitive research that informs state comparisons and points to potential product or pricing opportunities
Use Databricks Genie to explore data, and Claude Code to write SQL queries, build analytical scripts, automate recurring reports, and document findings
Bring relevant data and business context into analytical workflows through approved MCP connections
Validate data, calculations, and AI-generated outputs; document sources and assumptions, and raise questions early when results look uncertain or inconsistent
Deliver clear charts and concise summaries for Pricing and Risk and partner teams, developing recommendations alongside experienced colleagues
Measure performance after pricing, underwriting, and product changes go live
Success in this role
In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.
By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make.
State performance analyses arrive accurate and on time, and the team trusts your explanation of what changed and why
The team is acting on profitable state growth opportunities that your analysis helped bring to light
Recurring reports run through repeatable AI-assisted workflows instead of manual effort
You're independently handling analyses that once required close guidance
What you’ll bring
0–2 years of relevant experience; internships, coursework, and analytical projects count
Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, finance, business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Foundational SQL skills and proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools
Experience analyzing data to identify patterns, investigate questions, and explain findings
Hands-on experience using AI for analytical or coding tasks (academic or personal projects count), and a willingness to regularly use and build proficiency in Claude Code, Databricks Genie, and MCP-enabled workflows
Attention to detail and the judgment to question and verify AI-generated results before relying on them
Ability to explain findings in plain language, stay curious, and manage assignments with guidance
Bonus if you have
Familiarity with Claude Code, Databricks Genie, or MCP connections
Exposure to P&C insurance, pricing, underwriting, or risk analysis
Familiarity with Python, data visualization, or statistical analysis
A project showing how you used AI to analyze data, validate results, and communicate a recommendation
