Principal Frontend Engineer

Job Description

You’ll join our Frontend Platform organization, building and evolving the core libraries, tools, frameworks, and UI components used across multiple Cognex products. Most of our current work is in Angular and Flutter, and we maintain a large shared library that is critical to the business.

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a highly experienced technical contributor, helping solve complex engineering challenges and design scalable, maintainable solutions. In addition to hands-on development, you will contribute to architectural discussions, mentor other engineers, and help promote engineering best practices across the organization.

Areas of Responsibility

• •Own and evolve shared frontend libraries, frameworks, and internal tooling used across multiple product teams.
• •Contribute to architectural improvements and the long-term technical direction of our frontend platform.
• •Design scalable, maintainable, and reusable solutions that can be adopted across products.
• •Build high-quality production code.
• •Evaluate new technologies and help identify the right solutions for technical challenges.
• •Leverage AI technologies and developer tooling to accelerate frontend development, improve code quality, and increase the scalability of engineering teams.
• •Promote engineering best practices with a focus on performance, reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
• •Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance when needed.
• •Share knowledge through design reviews, technical presentations, and other learning opportunities.

Objective Requirements Related to the Position

• •10+ years of experience in software engineering.
• •Strong experience building large-scale frontend applications using modern frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, or Flutter.
• •Solid Angular knowledge or willingness to develop deep expertise quickly, as it is currently our primary frontend technology.
• •Strong knowledge of TypeScript and modern frontend development practices.
• •Strong understanding of API integration, backend systems, and software engineering best practices.
• •Strong technical judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead technical discussions and make pragmatic decisions.
• •Experience mentoring engineers and helping raise engineering standards.
• •Fluency in English.

Nice to Have

• •Experience with Flutter, React, or Avalonia.
• •Experience designing and maintaining component libraries, design systems, or shared platform code.
• •Experience leading technology modernization or migration efforts.
• •Experience working in platform teams or multi-product environments.
• •.NET exposure and understanding of full-stack systems.
• •Experience contributing to engineering standards and technical best practices across teams.

Conference presentations, technical community involvement, open-source contributions, or other forms of technical leadership.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
