We are creating a connected, integrated technology ecosystem that simplifies how work gets done and delivers seamless, intuitive self-service experiences for our Toasters (employees) and leaders.
About this Roll* (The Role)
Problem Framing & Stakeholder Partnership: Act as a trusted technical advisor to People Technology and business leaders. Lead discovery to clarify the real problem, desired outcomes, and constraints before solutioning. Set clear expectations on scope, trade-offs, and timelines.
Architecture & Strategy: Define integration architecture patterns, standards, and roadmap for the People tech ecosystem. Evaluate build vs. buy, point-to-point vs. middleware or event-driven approaches, and emerging tools such as Workday Extend, iPaaS, and AI.
Design & Build: Develop, test, and deploy scalable Workday integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, PECI, and Web Services. Stay hands-on with the most complex and highest-risk builds.
End-to-End Delivery: Own integrations from discovery and architecture through testing, deployment, hypercare, and ongoing optimization, including high-stakes moments like Open Enrollment, payroll cycles, and major go-lives.
Prioritization & Influence: Balance competing requests across People functions using clear criteria tied to business impact and risk. Influence Enterprise Architecture, Security, and external vendors on design decisions, and hold partners to a high technical bar.
Operational Excellence: Drive root-cause analysis on production failures and lead systemic fixes that reduce technical debt, manual handoffs, and failure rates.
Health & Governance: Strengthen monitoring, alerting, logging, error handling, and release testing (including Workday biannual updates) so issues are caught before they affect the business. Protect sensitive employee data (PII, compensation, ER) through secure-by-design practices.
Technical Leadership: Partner closely with teammates, including our integration peer in Chennai, to define swim lanes, shared standards, and a consistent operating rhythm. Create clear documentation (runbooks, integration specs, data flow diagrams), lead design reviews, and mentor others on integration best practices.
A day in the life (Responsibilities):
Design & Build: Develop, test, and deploy scalable Workday integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, PECI, and Web Services.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with People, Payroll, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Finance, IT, and Security to translate business needs into robust technical designs and data mappings.
End-to-End Ownership: Lead integrations through their full lifecycle—from initial discovery and architecture through testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
Operational Excellence: Manage the integration service queue, driving root-cause analysis on production failures to continuously reduce technical debt and manual fixes.
Health & Governance: Enhance alerting, logging, error handling, and release testing (including Workday biannual updates) to proactively catch issues before they impact business operations.
Technical Leadership: Create clear documentation (runbooks, integration specs, data flow diagrams) and mentor peers on integration standards and best practices.
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements):
8+ years of integration engineering experience, including 5+ years designing, building, and supporting Workday integrations in a complex enterprise environment.
Core Technical Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, PECI, Workday Web Services, RaaS, calculated fields, and custom reporting.
Data Protocols & Formats: Strong working knowledge of REST, SOAP, XML, XSLT, JSON, WSDL, XPath, SFTP, and HTTPS.
Security & Auth Standards: Experience applying OAuth 2.0, SAML, SSL/TLS, and PGP encryption to sensitive data flows.
Architecture Judgment: A track record of making and defending sound design trade-offs (speed vs. technical debt, synchronous vs. asynchronous, build vs. buy) in systems that scale.
Stakeholder Partnership: Proven ability to partner with non-technical business leaders, ask the right questions to uncover the real need, and explain complex technical trade-offs in plain language.
Delivery & Ownership: Experience leading cross-functional integration initiatives from ambiguity to delivery, including when requirements, API specs, or platform access are incomplete.
Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills, with experience troubleshooting production integrations and driving permanent fixes through Jira or ServiceNow.
Domain Context: Solid understanding of core HR functional areas (HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation, Time & Attendance) and effective-dated HR data.
What will help you stand out (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves):
Workday Pro Certification in Integrations.
Experience with Workday Extend or Workday Prism Analytics.
Hands-on experience with iPaaS/middleware (Boomi, MuleSoft) or event-driven patterns (messaging queues, retry and idempotency design).
Familiarity with adjacent tech stacks: Greenhouse, ServiceNow, CloudPay, ADP, Okta, or NetSuite.
Experience applying AI tooling to integration development, testing, or support.
Background supporting People Technology in a fast-paced, high-growth, or global matrix environment.
