Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an experienced Principal Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer/ Sr Principal Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer specializing in metallic structure to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals with our Vehicle Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, Florida.

Key responsibilities:

Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues

Generates test plans & reports

Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.

May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures

May travel to subcontractor locations

Basic Qualifications:

Principal M&P Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials for airframe structures OR Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials for airframe structures

Sr Principal M&P Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 9 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials for airframe structures OR Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 7 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials for airframe structures OR PhD degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 4 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials for airframe structures.

Experience with metals and their applications related to the fabrication and design on aircraft

Experience with repair processes for metallic materials used in aerospace structures

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

BS or MS in Materials Science or similar

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to collaborate in a team environment

Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously

Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

Experience with military specs and standards

Experience interfacing with a military customer

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
