Job Description

The Principal Solution Architect leads technology architecture strategy for the Investment Services Portfolio, a large WCIB portfolio serving institutional clients in a high-volume, highly regulated environment. This role owns the target-state architecture, multi-year roadmap, modernization strategy, and portfolio governance. It serves as a senior advisor to business and technology leaders, influencing investment priorities and architecture decisions while leading architects and translating business strategy into scalable, secure, resilient technology direction.

Key Responsibilities

Own and evolve the portfolio architecture strategy, target state, and multi-year technology roadmap.

Translate business strategy, enterprise direction, regulatory needs, and emerging opportunities into technology priorities and investment recommendations.

Lead portfolio architecture governance to drive consistency, reuse, interoperability, resiliency, and enterprise alignment.

Oversee architecture for complex, high-risk initiatives across applications, platforms, data, integration, cloud, and emerging technologies.

Lead modernization across cloud, application rationalization, platforms, technical debt, DevOps, and platform engineering.

Identify systemic architecture risks and balance business outcomes, cost, speed, risk, and long-term sustainability.

Align application, platform, data, and AI strategies with security, privacy, governance, and regulatory requirements.

Establish reusable patterns and guardrails that accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and compliance.

Advise senior leaders through architecture reviews, strategic planning, roadmaps, and clear communication of tradeoffs.

Lead and mentor architects, including one direct report, while influencing strategy across the broader organization.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

Eight or more years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

Ten or more years in software engineering, solution or enterprise architecture, platform architecture, or technology strategy.

Five or more years leading architecture for complex portfolios, business domains, platforms, or interconnected systems.

Experience defining target-state architectures and multi-year modernization roadmaps while influencing senior leaders on investment tradeoffs.

Strong knowledge of the software development life cycle, distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, integration, and cloud.

Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring architects and aligning teams through influence.

Ability to explain complex architecture decisions to executive, business, and technical audiences.

Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry.

Architecture team leadership or formal people-management experience.

Experience with Azure, AWS, hybrid or multi-cloud platforms, cloud-native services, and large-scale transformation.

Knowledge of enterprise portfolio planning, financial management, and technology investment.

Working knowledge of modern data platforms, analytics, AI/ML, intelligent automation, and AI-enabled development.

Familiarity with digital assets, tokenization, or other emerging financial technologies.

Knowledge of TOGAF, BIAN, Zachman, or relevant architecture and cloud certifications.

Location Expectation

This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location, listed in the posting, three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $159,970.00 - $188,200.00
